A Great "Feedback Mechanism" For Your Swing
This is a great tool to use when trying to improve your softball swing.

In short - it is a miniature parachute that you attach to your bat via a sleeve that covers the head of the bat (a zipper and a velcro strap keep the sleeve tightly wrapped around the bat).

With the chute firmly attached to the bat, you then do any number of exercises to practice a level swing.The chute will inflate every time you swing, but it only inflates fully when you make a fluid motion by keeping your hands back and swinging level all the way through.You basically get a nice feel for what it takes to generate a level swing.Think of the parachute opening as a "feedback mechanism" for finding a level swing.

This allows you to do a number of things with the swing trainer, including:

1.You can move the bat back and forth to warm-up and practice the motion of a level swing (i.e. try to make the chute open when moving the back back and forth while open and closing your hips)

2. You can practice taking full swings and the chute gives you feedback as to whether you are swinging level.When you swing level, it opens up all the way and basically slows down your swing.When you do not swing level, it only opens-up part-way - which then allows you to think about how/why you are not swinging level.

3.You can also practice swinging at different spots - to practice the motions necessary to swing level at different heights and locations.For example, I was popping-up a lot when swinging at balls that were thrown right down the middle of the plate.The swing trainer allows you to practice the type of swing that you should use on pitches thrown in the location.The same goes with practicing your swing for hitting to the opposite field (i.e. a right handed hitter hitting to right field).You can practice what it takes to swing level when you have to wait for the ball with your hands back and then swing while stepping to right field.

And - finally - it gives you a nice amount of resistance when using it - so that you actually isolate and build the muscles that you use while swinging level.When you take 40 or 50 swings with the chute fully opening, you can feel an impact on your arms, hips, lower back, shoulders, etc.Whle this won't turn you into a body builder, it helps you develop the muscles you need to swing hard and level.
