Hoop horror show
We purchased the portable model 74278, and I wish we had read the reviews prior to it...we've spent 6 hours so far and are about 1/2 way to full assembly. We laid out all the parts and carefully labeled each pile, since nothing comes identified.Our son is disgusted with the effort involved, parts don't fit, lots of sway, smashed fingers, huge waste of time. If I could forgo the cost, I would drive the whole mess back to the store and dump it there. And to add insult to injury, everyone I've spoken to about the portable system has said "Didn't you know not to buy that - they're (Huffy) all impossible to put together!" Great birthday present, Huffy.....never again.

May want to shop around first...
Good design, Great quality parts, hours of headache in assembly. Bolts that don't fit, nuts that won't go on all the way, two different rim instructions with one being too loose, the other too stiff. Lots off left over parts had me wondering what I did wrong....Definatly needs two or more persons to help with assembly. after it was all said and done, I was happy with the final product, and swaying was minimized once you got water or sand in the base, however make sure you look around if you don;t like putting together products that come with frustration...but for the money, can't beat this one.

Assembly will make you curse!
Be prepared for a difficult time assembling this product.The instructions themselves are not difficult, if you disregard the fact that there are two different instructions to assemble the rim.One makes the rim move way too much, while the other instructions result in rim having no give, and negating the usefulness of the spring.The most frustrating problem is that nearly every large bolt (there are about 6) required must be forced through 3 or 4 holes each.This part will require a hammer, lots of muscle, and plenty of WD-40!And after the entire product is assembled there is lots of sway in the entire unit when the ball hits the rim.I am not impressed with this product! ... Nice Hoop for a reasonable price
I just purchased this basketball hoop, and after reading some of the negative reviews about it, I thought that it was going to be a nightmare.This was NOT the case.At least for me, the assembly process was not much of a problem.The instructions were easy to follow, and the parts were of pretty high quality.
I only had two real problems: 1) the 9/16" nuts were extremely difficult to get on, but I was able to so it with a socket wrench and and some serious use of force, and 2) the plastic bottom frame that goes around the hoop did not fit.The latter was not a big deal, as it was not a necessary part for getting the hoop to work.Other than that, all of the pieces fit together well.
A warning to potential buyers: do not try to assemble this alone.While most of the hoop can be put together by one person, it really requires two people for certain steps, namely attaching the pole into the base and attaching the backboard support system to the pole. Also, do not expect to get his completed in a couple of hours.It took me about 6 hours to get the hoop assembled and set up, working mostly by myself.My advice is to take your time and make sure that every step is completed correctly before moving on.
As far as the performance of the hoop itself, it is a very nice basketball hoop.The backboard is sturdy enough to take bank shots easily, and the height ajustment system works extremely well (a huge improvement from my last hoop, which is now 12 years old, in which you had to use a wooden stick to adust the height).I would highly recommend this item for a nice portable basketball hoop at a reasonable price.

Frustrating!!!
I purchased this on sale! No wonder!I have spent countless hours attempting to put this system together.After reading the first reviewers comments, I must agree that the assemblying instructions were poorly thought out.I believe there are missing "spacers", and the holes for the black frame do not align.I'm quite handy with tools and projects such as this, but I too will have to go and buy extra screws and spacers which will fit.What a waster of my time and my daughter who just sits and waits while I try and re-try!UGH! ...
