4-0 out of 5 stars This phone is great
I purchased this phone because of the waterproof feature. I own
a restaurant and this is the only cordless phone that has stood
up to tough handling. (ie. wet hands, splattering milkshakes, dropping,
etc.)I have had this phone over a year and it still
does the job.The range is not really an issue with me, but there is static
if I take it to my office in the rear of the
building. However, this is not much different than others I have owned.
The only reason I did not give it 5 stars was that I wish it had an earpiece
volumn and the words on some of the keys are wearing
off from constant use.

1-0 out of 5 stars alll i get is static
this phone sucks if i leave three feet from the base all i hear is static i reaaly wish i would not have ripped the box up

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice Phone
We started using this phone around Christmas time.So far, no problems, though we use mostly outdoors and around the hot tub (I haven't tried to see just how waterproof it is).I don't have any complaints.Sound is loud both on earpiece and on the other end.The distance is fine--we live in a large 3 story house and we haven't had any problems with reception within it or outside it.Nice display with caller id.Buttons work fine.I wish all phones could be made this rugged.

2-0 out of 5 stars Tough phone, with poor sound quality and poor range.
Just got one of these in the hope that it will survive my three kids, they go through phones pretty quick. This seems to be a very rugged phone, so should last a while. Unfortunately the sound quality is poor and the range is just barely able to cover our small house. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars decent unit
I just got the foretrex 101 for christmas.I have a garmin gps 12 which has worked great for me for years.I chose this model because I wanted something I portable to easily wear on my wrist and handlebars.I also chose the 101 because I didn't want to have to remember to charge the unit.I think it lasts 15 hours on 2 nimh AAAs.Anyway, so far as a data cable, you can easily make one with a 2.5mm phono plug (like the end of cellphone handsfree kit) and a female db9 connector. The tip and middle sections of the plug go to pins 2 and 3 (if it doesn't work just swap 'em) and the back section goes to pin 5. I use EasyGPS among other programs to communicate with it.The advantage of RS/232 over USB is that you can communicate with other GPSs and certain other non-host devices.I hooked it up to my pocket PC for satellite navigation.Negatives: it may be my particular unit, but I get inadequate reception unless I have the screen pointing up.Same thing if I'm near trees. My gps12 works much better in these situations, and based on other reviews here, I feel mine may be defective.Hope someone else posts more detail about satellite reception.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing
I have had a Garmin GPS12 for several years and liked it and saw no need to upgrade for my purposes (hiking and geocaching). But when I saw the Foretrex on Amazon I was intrigued and put it on my Christmas list after looking about both this and the Forerunner.

I am really impressed. It does just about everything my 12 does but in a smaller package. The ergonomic sense of wearing it on my wrist is just awesome. Being able to wear it while running and see my speed, to see my info while hinking without having to dig for my GPS from a pocket or pouch. If it was just a scaled-down 12 it would be worth it.

But, no...there's more. The trip computer page is great. Pick the info you want from dozens of fields and choose where you want them displayed. Simple and easy to configure. It's great. It's like being able to have a purpose-made GPS screen for whatever activity you're doing.

Their is WAAS support as well. In layman's terms it makes the GPS more accurate, which, of course, is a good thing.

Probably my only con on this unit would be the lack of external power connection. This really only comes into play in the car. (Where it mounts handily on my rear-view mirror using the wrist strap.)

Battery life is good for only using 2 AAA's. A Set of rechargables is a logical investment with this unit. Speaking of batteries, the reason I choose the 101 over the 201 is the ability to use batteries. There aren't many power outlets in the woods for recharging and I do enjoy backpacking and longer trips on occasion.

5-0 out of 5 stars so far so good
I just got this gadget and have used it around the neighboorhood but not yet in the backcountry. So far it seems to work well.It actually fits on my wrist without being annoying and bulky. If you feel self conscious it fits under the cuff most jackets.

The first day I got it I went to a local park, marked a waypoint, walked about half a mile away, then navigated back to within 10 feet.So accuracy and ease of use are fine.I have also used it in the car and it is very accurate at tracking speed, distance, etc.

Reception was problematic one day when it was very foggy out.Maybe this is a problem for all GPS units. But beware - this technology is not foolproof!

My only gripe is that the instruction manual, while sufficient for basic operation, does not describe all the features in complete detail.I am still trying to figure out the difference between bearing, heading, and course. But I still gave it 5 stars because it is a great little gadget at a price that seems reasonable.

By the way, I am very happy with Amazon's delivery. The package came to my house less than 24 hours after I placed the order - even though I selected the slowest option (like 3-5 days?) to get free shipping.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best feature set in a wrist GPS
I like to walk/jog along different routes through my neighborhood.I do have a pedometer, but I do not have complete faith in its accuracy.I have also become fascinated by "Geocaching," a hobby where people hide a cache somewhere, upload its Latitude and Longitude to the Internet, and then other people can go on a treasure hunt of sorts.

GPS units have been around for a good amount of time now, but I consider them to be too bulky to use for everyday jogging. These wrist GPS units (the Foretrex 101/201, and the Forerunner 101/201) offer nice alternatives, but which one did I need?

In my mind, the first criteria for any GPS system is its accuracy. If the device provides inaccurate data, then any information derived from it is devalued. The Foretrex units are WAAS-enabled, which means they use a separate set of ground-based stations to correct the satellite information. This correction results in higher accuracy, and eliminated the Forerunners from consideration.WAAS is currently available only in North America.

The next concern that I had was for battery life: I wanted to be sure that the thing worked when I turned it on!Since I had narrowed my search to the Foretrex 101/201, I discovered that the main difference between these two units was that the 201 uses an integrated battery, while the 101 uses standard "AAA" batteries.I didn't want to have to keep track of a power adapter if I took my GPS on the road with me in order to recharge the unit, but it would be easy to carry an extra pair of AAA's.As a result, the Foretrex 101 was the last unit standing.

In actual use, it has been wonderful.I have been able to track time and distance on my walks, regardless of the route that I take. The only concern I have is that if I am going under trees, the Foretrex can lose its signal more easily than I would expect. The loss of signal also affects my ability to quickly locate some "geocaches."I have read that this problem exists in some of the larger Garmin units as well.I don't expect a smaller device to have better performance, which is why I didn't reduce my rating to four stars.

The only other item that is worth mentioning is that the Foretrex 101 does NOT come with a PC interface cable. It has the capability, but the cable is sold separately.I strongly recommend acquiring this cable so that you can update the firmware in the device, as well as download your track information from it.With the optional cable, I am getting all of the functionality that I expected from such a compact device.

If you are looking for an informational aid for your workouts, then the Foretrex 101 is a great option.I believe that this one device has the features that you will need over its siblings. If you are looking for more robust features from a GPS, including use for Geocaching or for mapping, then you should look elsewhere.

4-0 out of 5 stars great product with minor faults
I've been using the Garmin e-trex gps for a few years so it was very easy to use the Foretrex 101 out of the box. It's very accurate and intuitive, satellite reception is good, even when you have it at your wrist and you're driving the car. Of course heavy forest on cloudy days or city canyons do block the signal, but are there portable gps that don't have this problem?
Although Garmin makes a running specific unit, the Foretrex is perfect for runners as not only keeps track of speed, average speed, max speed, time, distance, total distance, vertical speed etcetera, but it also plots the track, so it's always easy to return to the starting point even in unknown places or in the countryside. Plus it has all the navigation ability of the classic portable gps, like compass, route, bearing, time to destination and so on.
So it's great for hiking, boating (with small boats) but it is also an extraordinary cycle computer (no wheel measure to insert or magnets and pick-ups to fix) and a motorbike navigation aid.
I can't wait to check my speed down the ski slopes, wearing it over the jacket, with the wrist band extension.
Talking about wrist band, I have a 7"/18cm wrist and I use the wrist band at maximum elongation, so a guy with an 8" wrist would be *******. The extension is good to wear the gps over thick sleeves but too long for big wrist people (over 7").
Also, the interface cable is optional (standard on the 201) and you do need it in case you want to download software upgrades.
The back light works very well.
Oh, one great thing is that you can actually program the screen to display the information you want, so basically you can quickly adapt the GPS to the actual use.
It works very well with NiMH batteries and can be kept in battery save mode all the time without significant accuracy loss, so to extend battery life. I do recommend rechargeables as nowadays you can get two AAA 750mA NiMH for 6 bucks.
To summarise, the unit is great and I detracted 1 point for the short strap and for the interface cable which in China cost 30 cents to produce and I think should be included in the package. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars OLD SOFTWARE!! Instead FIND - USE Version 7 as of (06/15/05)
I cannot believe that anyone would ethically sell outdated charts.Avoid unless you find the latest version available.Storms and tides change the oceans, and new wrecks and hazards may be present.

AVOID!!!Version 5.5

1-0 out of 5 stars you are selling an OLD version as NEw
The current version of the software is 7.Why are you putting people's lives and property in danger selling old map data.

5-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive, fast, and easy to use
The Garmin "Bluecharts" are vector charts, which means they use mathematic algorithms to store all the lines and features of a nautical chart.I have steered away from these in the past because they tended to give up a lot of detail vs. "Raster Graphic" charts, which are essentially photographic images of paper charts.

With "Bluecharts" they have gotten to a level of detail (including multiple colors) that they look almost as good as a paper charts. The advantages of vector charts is that they take up much less room on your hard drive and run much faster on a PC.This is important when you are zooming in and out to see your depth or proximity to a wreck while moving on a boat.

I use mine with an eTrex Legend and am able to load most of the detail (depth, obstructions, nautical aids, etc) onto the handheld. For the full look of charts, I connect the GPS unit to my laptop. The package also includes tidal charts, which are much more detailed and accurate than the little tide chart booklets I used to use. Overall, it makes navigation a breeze...your boat is automatically represented on the chart and you have many simple tools to calculate distance/time to a given destination. It also incorporates additional information on Marinas and service locations.

The Garmin application the charts run on, "MapSource" allows you to easily switch between map types.I have "Americas Bluechart," "MetroGuide" (streetmaps), and "Tides and Marine Services," all without having to reconnnect the GPS unit.

The only hassle is the "Unlock" process, which is a bit time consuming and involves providing the Garmin website with a bunch of codes, including the serial number of my GPS unit to unlock a set of charts from the CD-ROM.I'm not sure, but I think it will only work with that specific unit, which worries me a bit as I am thinking about buying a second unit for backup.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply the best!
I'll cut right to the chase--if you have a Garmin GPS unit that is MapSource compatible, and use it on the ocean, buy this CD!Garmin's Water Ways & Lights CD is a total joke compared to the BlueChart CD.The level of detail is an exact duplication of NOAA paper charts--very, very accurate and very, very detailed.I use this software with my GPSMAP 162, and the only drawback is that with the detail level set to high, it slows the screen redraw rate down considerably.but, when you're actually on the water, this isn't even noticeable.Bottom line--this is a great product. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great Starter GPS
I just started Geocaching a few months ago and after doing research on available GPSs in my price range, I decided to choose this one.It is a great starter unit that does not have so many functions that the directions on usage overwhelm you (we all know about VCR programming!) It has great screen readout, easy-to-program waypoints, and a nice size.

On the downside, it can be a bit slow initiating at startup and there is no PC connection capabilities. But then again, it's supposed to be a simple unit and with 16MB it should serve you well. However, I wouldn't recommend it for driving since it's not designed for that and there are models out there better suited for that purpose.

All in all, if you're looking for a great basic model, I would recommend it.The Garmin eTrex Legend is comparable but this Magellan has better accuracy, more channels, and more route capabilities.

I haven't regretted this purchase.

1-0 out of 5 stars Mediocre Quality GPS
Being an owner of both the Garmin eTrex, and the Magellan 200, I find that:

DOWNSIDE
----------------
1)The Magellan is slow to lock on and frequently cannot get 3D accuracy with even 4 satellites.
2)The carrying case *blows chunks*.A _cheap_ zipper bag that you have to take your belt off to wear it or remove it.Garmin's is form-fitting with a belt clip, clear viewing port, and velcro-- much better.
3)The Magellan has *no* interface for a PC, which even the most basic Garmin eTrex has, which is important because the PC interface is used for (cigarette power adapter, PC data uplink, and firmware ugprade to GPS downlink).
4)The battery compartment holdig-bolt requires numerous turns to to loosen, whereas the Garm etrex requires 1/2 turn.
5)No lanyard comes with the unit, although it has a molded place for one to be attached to.eTrex' come with lanyards.
6)Screen has a tendency to repaint, even if you're not moving
7)GUI interface is clumsy, and has a "cluttered" look to it.
8)the 'joystick' or jog-stick too easily depressed causing you to select something when you were only trying to scroll.
9)It has an option to erase the contents of the unit entirely. Why?there is NO WAY TO RELOAD IT.
10)This does not show you *where* the satellites are in relation to you, which the Garmin eTrex does.

UPSIDE:
---------------
1)Backlight is very nice
2)Screen is larger
3)Has a field in it to put identity info or "reward" message

PRICEWISE:
---------------
Pricewise, the basic eTrex costs $89, whereas this ran me $139.I don't care for the mapping function, it's annoying.I don't use it for road navigation. And I don't know how it would update the maps anyway, without a PC interface to upgrade it.

OVERALL:
---------------
Overall, not worth the money. It falls down in almost all the areas a serious, fast-paced user requires.I rate it about $60 too much in comparison to the Garmin.

As it is, I disliked the crummy carrying pouch so much, I found it will barely fit in the extra Garmin eTrex Holster I had.Garmin's are also smaller on the hip.I would not have bought this, but lost my Garmin.

I have to say I found the Garmin to be much more professional, functional, and useful, and will end up buying one again.this Magellan goes up on eBay, today.

3-0 out of 5 stars Undetailed, and a bit slow
My best friend owns two of these GPS system things. So, yeah, I'm a newbie at this GPS thing. I turned it on, and it took 10 seconds for it to go to the map. Then, 10, 20, 30...60...100 seconds...why aren't the satellites connecting?...200, then finally a satellite was connected, and I was outside. I zoomed all the way in, and it was very confusing. I could only see three roads, one being the I-10 freeway. And no, Tucson is not a small city. Actually, it's pretty big, the second biggest city in Arizona, and Phoenix being the biggest, and due to all of the northwest area construction, that's not saying much. The map was very unclear, showing two main roads, I-10, and this big circle saying Flowing Wells. And Flowing Wells was actually misplaced, and should have been a little more southern.

It does have it's high points. At least you have specific numbers, on how far and fast you are walking, but once again, slow.

It does what it's supossed to do, but it does it in such a below-average way that I can not recommend.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not for travelling hiways and biways
5 stars for trail use, 0 for travelling roads. while this gadget would work well for trekking offroad, its not great for roads.
Dont get this thinking your going to use it to navigate roadways.
While it does show interstates etc it does not map your route, so you better know how to get where your going already. It simply draws a straight line from point A to point B and indicates where you are.
The menus are also to slow to navigate, I drive for a living an need fast inputs, I need to put in street address's not just a city. I work long hrs and need an external power source as well. There is no connectivty to palm or laptop.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for driving and backpacking.
I love this little critter. I find the built in map for driving handles most major roads and all of the interstates. On my latest 14 hour trip to several relatives, I was on a marked road 98% of the time. Zooming out tells me when intersections will be coming and the GOTO ETA is pretty much right on (when will we be home, daddy? 1 hour 27 minutes plus or minus 5 minutes... Oh...) Thing is as bad as a cell phone for driving distraction.
Screen is very nice. Contrast is great. Looks good from full sun to dim light and the night light takes over from there. Words are very legible (it does take some skill to read Lake Mooselookmyguntic while driving tho)
Accuracy while hiking will get you within 30 feet regularly so works for trail finding and maps. The joystick does take some getting used to but works fine once you get the hang (push from the side not from the top). Lots of self help built in (reading material on my long walks out). Battery life is good and I use rechargeable double AAs NIMH and get a good 6-7 hours out of them. I carry a couple of extra with me. Swapping batteries is easy and can be done without tools but needs bare fingers to unscrew the D ring screw. Nothing is lost when swapping batteries. Takes about 1-2 minutes to sync up with the satellites when turned on. Picks up the satellites well in my pocket or nestled in the cars door handle. The night light feature is very nice and does not knock too much off of the battery. Lightweight, takes a drop onto concrete with just a nick here or there on the case. Buttons have a good feel and can be manipulated by feel while driving. Buttons need to be pushed with bare fingers or very thin gloves. One very neat feature is that the sun and moon are located on the compass when they are above the horizon. Donno how they do that. Compass works only when moving but it only takesa few steps to get it to work
For backpacking there is one major issue. The odometer does not track accurately in the woods. If the GPS loses track somewhere where the trees are thick, the odometer stops logging during that time. The funny thing is that the active track is spot on. Just use the active track to figure out how far you have walked. The breadcrumbs work great. I could care less about downloading content or maps or topo stuff. That is what printed maps are for and I would never trust an electronic device to get me out anyways.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great addition to my GPS receiver!
I have been using my copy of Topo 3D for 2 weeks now and have been very impressed with the detail of the maps. The street information is based on NavTeq and is much more up-to-date and accurate than previous software versions. The Topographic information is based on a 30 meter grid layout as opposed to the 90 meter grid layout of the previous Mapsend Topo.Needless to say, the topo information is much better.

The biggest Pros for this software:

Better Street Detail, More detailed topography, increased mapsize allows you to download maps up to the size of a 247MB file (with the appropriate SD Memory card) -- previous versions allowed only up to 64MB, 3D view is nice to help visualize an area (you can see it from above, rotate it around to get different angles, and place yourself inside the map to review a given route), lots of Points of Interest (so many that you have to set options on which ones to show so they don't clutter up the map), easy user interface with lots of options for creating routes/waypoints and transferring to your GPS.

Biggest Disappointments:

Trails are not shown on the software. It does give you markers for the trail heads, but it does not show the trails themselves. The software is teamed up with Trails.com as a selling feature which seemed pretty promising. This was HUGELY anti-climactic -- It requires a $30/yr subscription to use the information, and it only provides you access to books/articles/printed maps -- not the ability to download trails to your GPS Receiver. This is the biggest reason for a 4 star rating rather than a 5.

As an aside, the software doesn't sell that it does Autorouting, so I didn't dock it stars for this, but someday Magellan will get the idea that an all inclusive software package will provide the most user satisfaction. Why are Topo maping and Autoroute mapping treated as mutually exclusive products?

All in all, I am very pleased with this product and would recommend it to others.Good job Magellan! ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

Tired of leaving the door open to hear your music on the deck? It's time for a pair of high-quality outdoor speakers like the Atrium 45 from Polk Audio. The speakers each feature all-stainless-steel and brass hardware for years of rustproof reliability and a rustproof aluminum bracket that permits multiple mounting options and full 90 degree rotation: you can aim them to deliver the best possible sound in a variety of positions.

The Atrium 45 speakers have a wide dispersion pattern, and they're very efficient, operating on as little as 10 watts per channel. They're designed to deliver good sound quality across a large listening area, but Polk recommends multiple-pair setups if you want high sound levels in an outdoor setting, as sound tends to dissipate more quickly outdoors than in.

The speakers' white finish is paintable to match your decor or trim color--you can even paint them green to blend with foliage. Their sculpted front baffle and rounded enclosures minimize diffraction (sound reflecting off of hard edges) for more open and lifelike imaging, and their rustproof aluminum grilles offer 55 percent open area for better high-frequency response than speakers with denser grilles.

Sealed-enclosure (acoustic suspension) cabinets result in taut bass, and the speakers' 2-way design incorporates a 4.5-inch long-throw polymer cone driver with butyl-rubber suspension and a .75-inch dome tweeter with a neodymium magnet to broadly distribute high frequencies. Gold-plated, 5-way binding post terminals will never corrode. The plugs also allow hookups in a range of methods, including convenient banana-plug-terminated speaker cable.

The Atrium 45 meets or exceeds ASTM D5894-UV Salt Fog, Mil standard 810 Immersion and Mil standard 883 Method 1009 8 for salt and corrosion tests.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for tailgating.
My wife always said she prefered staying at home and watching the games on TV to going to the stadium. Now she can have the best of both worlds!

Seriously though; When I first got my season tickets I resolved to pick up a couple of items a year to enhance the tailgating experience. My wife got me the Fire and Ice grill for Christmas and I picked up the Xantex Power Inverter and then went shopping for an inexpensive TV at a yard sale.We used to bring a small set designed to keep kids occupied on long road trips and had to sit in the cab of my truck leaning together to watch.(OK for me and my wife, akward for me and my brother, downright unnerving for me and a friend of mine)Well, No more!!I can't wait to set up this baby with a 20" plus screen in the back. Here's hoping for more late games this year so I can enjoy freezing in a parking lot watching the early game with large quantities of grilled meat!

4-0 out of 5 stars Very useful
We bought this power inverter to power our daughters nebulizer and a t.v. and playstation for the kids on road trips. The only problem we had with it is when your using over 150 watts power you are supposed to hardwire it.That requires additional wiring.Other than that it is an excellent product at an excellent price!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Survived the North East blackout
It couldn't be a better time. Yesterday noon I got the X-Power 400 delivered by UPS, and in few hours it was put to its ultimate test. Yes we were hit by the 08/14 Thursday North East Blackout. But with the help of the X-Power 400, I was able to hookup the 13"TV and Dish receiver. Enought to spend the restof the evening siting in the desk and watching the CNN news update and TV programs with family and friends.I love the cigrette adapter and the battery clips.

I used the battery clips to get power from my car battery.

I recommend X-Power 400 for any regular household use. If you are planning to operate power tools, I suggest get the 700 or above.

This 400 is smart, small in size packed with all the energy to keep your entertainment rolling without any interrruption. My original intention to use my Laptop on my roadtrips, but this proved to be much more useful than just powering the laptop.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product
Does your nose burn, eyes dry....most likely your humidity is low....you have A/C well get this product and know whats going on with your humidity...no complaints on this product worked as it said.

5-0 out of 5 stars Verry accurate
The Thermo-Hygrometer and the remote sensor work great.I ordered a extra wireless remote sensor (THR138) and it does not work. The main unit receives no signal from this sensor.
I ordered another complete unit for about ten bucks more than just the extra sensor and will use it in another room. Problem solved.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great value
Purchased a month ago & works great.I retired from the
field of electronics design & engineering over 5 years ago.
A few years prior to that I developed a remote sensing
thermometer (wire connected) that had only a fraction of
the features of this, at a cost of several times the price
of this unit.I am impressed !!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very pleased!
I originally bought a GE unit from Target. Piece of junk, very inaccurate.
I wanted to monitor the humidity in my basement workshop with a dehumidifier. With the extended unit, i can monitor my bedroom and with another extra extended unit i monitor my babies room.
All 3 separate units, the main unit and 2 extended units placed together showed very similar readings. The GE product was over 15% wrong with humidity, (they say it's calibrated within 5%).
I also broughtthe Oregon Scientific units outdoors and checked the humidity against what the National Weather Service reported for the area and it was right on. The GE unit reported 80% humidity in a while the OG units showed 65% as reported by th Nation Weather Service.
They seem more substantial pieces and not toys displaying big LCD numbers and graphics.
These are not expensive compared to really high end humidity measuring devices so i expect inaccuracy and can tolerate inaccuracy within reason. (Unlike the GE sold at target) Therefore this product meets and even exceeds my expectations. I believe it represents honestly what it intends to do for this price range.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worked just fine..... for a while!
I purchased this unit in late December 2002 (as a Christmas present to myself), and was tremendously pleased with it for nearly a year.....

However, a few months ago it developed a horribly irritating flaw -- the LCD screen would simply go blank, and had to be reset (PITA, because it doesn't have a reset "button"; instead, you have to straighten out a paperclip and shove it into a small hole in the back).

I've emailed the folks at Oregon Scientific about this problem, and they suggested a variety of things that they thought *might* correct this behaviour (i.e. make sure the transmitting and receiving units are at least 10ft apart, try switching to a different channel, etc).Unfortunately, none of their suggestions had any effect on the problem, and it just continues to get worse (i.e. I now have to go thru the reset process 2 or 3 times before the display comes back). And a subsequent email to the Oregon Scientific folks 3 days ago has yet to be responded to.

So while I was satisfied with this unit at one time, it is now just worthless, and I consider it to have been a waste of my money. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product Better Then More Expensive Ones.
I paintball a lot and have spent well over $100 in different mic's. This one is the only one that my team uses now. It stays on, is very clear and works well for everyone on our team, young, old, big or little ears. We also use it for cycling.

1-0 out of 5 stars Will not stay on my ear
I cannot get this to stay on my ear. When I do get it on, it is not close enough to my ear, so it's hard to hear.I now use the earbud model with a PTT/mic on the cord -- Motorola 53727.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great product but....
My buddy and I use the Motorola 56320 earpiece & boom microphone several times over the past year.We use them in conjunction with Motorola VOX capable walkie talkies. They are fairly comfortable and work as advertised.

We do have one small complaint. You wouldn't think so but I could argue that the cheap 10 cent microphone windscreen is this product's most important component.

I found this out the hardway. The windscreen is not secured to the microphone by any adhesive.Over time the fit gets loose, and it keeps falling off. When this happens it is only a matter of time before you lose it.We use ours to comunicate while bike riding.Without a windscreen, the mike constantly keeps openning and closing, regardless of sensitivity settings.

Trying to buy replacement windscreens is near impossible. We searched high and low, and could not find anything afordable. We settled on a piece of a replacement foam cushion. It worked, however it makes us look like dorks! We finally caved and bought new headsets.

So do yourself a favor, before you use the Motorola 56320, take a minute and secure the windscreen to the mike with electrical tape or adhesive. If you don't you'll be kicking yourself after you lose it and recall this prediction!

4-0 out of 5 stars Motorola Headset 56320, GOOD, A+!
I use a Motorola Talkabout T6400 in whats called an "Airsoft Game", much like paintball, but with a military simulation twist. Anyway, communication is a very important thing, thus we all use two-way radios. Holding the radio and carrying it in my hand just was not an option, as I use an airsoft gun that takes up two hands. I bought the T6400 with a clip and all, but needed a headset. I saw many products outthere, some ranging from $20-100. I was tight on money, so I decided to go with this particular item. For $10, or whatever it is, you can't really beat it.
The capabilities are as follows (especially if you are looking for the VOX feature)

PTT and VOX compatible with Talkabout® 270, 280, T289, T5100, T5200, T5300, T5320, T5400, T5410, T5420, T5600, T5620, T5700, T5710, T5720, T5800, T5820, T5950, T6200, T6210, T6220, T6250, T6300, T6310, T6320, T6400, T7200 Series, fr50 and fr60 radios.

PTT-only compatible with T5100, T5200, fr50 and fr60 radios are not VOX/handsfree capable, therefore, headset is manual PTT only.

On to the field testing and use..
After doing some prelimenary tests to adjust my volume and whatnot, I got out in a game. My teammates said they could hear me loud and clear, almost too loud they said, haha. I could hear them perfectly as well. However, the ear piece that hooks onto your earlobe would occasionally fall off, now I have a small ear which was probably the problem.
The VOX feature that I can use on my two-way works pretty well using this headset. It will pick up your voice almost everytime within a tenth of a second, and agian, transmit everything 'loud and clear'. Be careful when whispering those things other people aren't supposed to hear ;) it will pick up EVERYTHING. Whoopsies....

I would highly recommened this item for any type of "irregular" use. As far as using it in the car, or however else, I do not think it would be my first choice because of the bulkiness, etc.
The clarity is an A+, the price is an A+, the receiving earpiece gets an A, and the ear piece itself, well a "B" for falling off my ear.

Good Luck!

2-0 out of 5 stars not compatible with what you may think
This product seems like a great idea but only if it works with the radio that you have. When I recieved this product I plugged it into my t5400 and expected to be able to speak and listen without any buttons.Well I couldn't do this because the t5400 is not compatible even though this site and the packaging say that it is.I am returning the product to amazon expecting a full refund including shipping.I am very disappointed with the situation I have encountered and wait on the outcome which will depend on myself shopping on amazon again. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Easy to use, decent, cost effective...but not very accurate
I bought an Explorist 100 for my son's first GPS to use for hunting, camping, fishing and diving. I am a little perplexed as to why I can't get WAAS accuracy closer than 75 feet and even at sea level it shows that the unit is at 48-75 feet. Possible problem unit, all in all I am happy and am contacting Magellan about these issues.

So far, though, at least onthe water, my onboard LORAN and GPS is much more accurate...down to 3-6 feet as opposed to 30-45 feet.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not quite 4 or 5 stars ...needs stronger reception ability
This writer thinks that it's not bad for what can be gotten for around a hundred bucks, but...

1)Very poor aquisition under rainy skies. ( Zero aquisition when inside under rainy skies....even when next to a window. My house is typical for this area of US: insulated with a wood & tar shingle roof.Aquistion just OK inside when clear skies outside.)

2)Poor accuracy at night, even though tracking 8 sat's. (Seems to need upward of 10+ sat's to get 3 meter accuracy.)Best I could get at night under clear skies, in a field, with new batteries was about 30 feet, (~10 meters rather than the advertised 3).In unfamiliar dense woods at night or poor weather this could be the difference between finding camp and getting lost.

3)An external antena jack and power jack would be GREAT for car or those situation when you need better reception.

4)You can not delete the waypoints ( "Points of Interest") as a group without deleating all routs too.

5)Can be difficult to read in bright sun...gets a bit washed out and requires tweaking screen contrast often. ( Could just be my 45 year old eye balls though!)

6)Does not come with detailed instructions, although one can download a nice and detailed 60 page manual by searching on-line.

7)The manufcturer does seem to have an odd fascination with disclaimers and EULA.The paper "instructions" that do come with it are dominated by a huge disclaimer area.

3-0 out of 5 stars Poor form: a built-in EULA upon bootup
Warning: the first thing this unit does upon boot is force the user to read and agree to a EULA (End User License Agreement) before being able to use the unit. Some people may not care, but I do.

5-0 out of 5 stars Maybe all you'll ever need
I have been looking for an inexpensive unit to use for a couple of years while I wait for this market to really mature. This is the answer. My use is for trails and backpacking.I have been using my unit for several days, and it is amazing for a $100 price level. I especially like the rugged exterior, which is easy to grip. Also the satellite lock is fast and impressive. The screen has an excellent backlight for dark nights and in the house, but otherwise the readibility is just fine. Much better than an eTrex. Just remember, it doesn't allow you to install maps, if that is the case, you need a more expensive unit. But if you just want to track distance, and fix points once you get there, this is worth every penny.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great GPS for the money
I am fairly new to the GPS scene.I have an old magellan that
has a tough time getting position fix - even on a treeless hilltop. Not with this unit -

Very fast position fix.Works in the house.Got 7 tracking
right now.

I like the track log.It tracks the path you are
traveling.Simple to backtrack.

Controls are very simple and fast.Menues are nice and clear.

Great looking LCD.

For $100 bucks I can't imagine a better GPS. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Versatile! Compost Thursday, Boxes Friday
This aluminum cart made it easy for me to move a variety of things, from dirt to computer monitors. It cleans up easily, it folds, and it will not rust. I bought with intent to haul compost. It did a good job. Then I moved my business, so I washed off the cart, folded it up, and took it in to the office. The cart fits in elevators and through doors, and did a fine job of carrying all sorts of heavy things. When I first looked at these I thought the folding might be nice. Yes, it is.But also, the cart is strong, light, well-balanced... its aluminum construction gives it some nice extras. If you're looking for a cart, I recommend this one.

I bought one of these carts about 6 years ago.I am an artist who participates in art and craft shows so I use it to haul my display, canopy and products. It has held up perfectly over the years. It's been the best cart I could have purchased. It folds up small enough to fit in the back of my Toyota Tercel hatchback with plenty of room for everything else.It hasn't rusted or dented.I barely even have to oil the 2 hinged elements (I think I've done that once or twice since purchase).I've loaded it up with sand bags and heavy umberella stands and it takes a lot of weight. All I do is add air to the tires about twice a year.I use it every weekend so it's seen a lot of use.I've had lots of other crafts people ask me where I got it.They all recognize how much better it is than a dolly that requires straps or bungee cords to secure everything in.This is a great price for it... I almost feel like getting another one, but mine is still fine so I don't need it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Comparison of 1300 and 2100 model
I purchased both the 1300 and 2100 model. The 2100 was...more expensive.Other then that the 2100 is painted blue, I was unable to find a difference in the two models. The only actual problem with either cart is that when loading the cart you have to balance some of the weight up near the legs because if you put all the weight by the wheel the cart will tip. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't block my view
I mounted the bracket to the top of my dashboard and unfolded it so my eTrex is situated in front of the dashboard just above my radio. The eTrex just barely goes above the top of the dash. I also bought the holster for hiking and it fits in it even with the bracket's battery cover.

4-0 out of 5 stars Works fine with my Legend
Echoing a previous reviewer: it IS compatible with Garmin's eTrex Legend!!! My only complaint is that the GPS unit seems to sit higher on the dash than necessary when using this mounting device, potentially affecting driver visibility.

4-0 out of 5 stars Works just fine with the Legend.
I had no difficulty mounting my eTrex Legend to my dash with this unit.It seems reasonably secure.I just wish Garmin's accesories were not so expensive.

1-0 out of 5 stars doesn't fit
I bought this and the etrex legend but the legend does not fit into this model. It looks like a fine product but not for this shape etrex. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Garmin Product-Rino 130
This update might help users that were having problems with there Rino 110, 120 and 130 Radios. Peer-to-Peer and reception issues.

Garmin is pleased to announce that the FCC has granted Garmin a waiver that will allow the Rino series units to send position data on GMRS channels. In addition, Industry Canada has established a license-free GMRS service. Canadian Rino units will now allow users access to GMRS channels. Position sending/polling will also be allowed on Canadian GMRS channels. (...)

2-0 out of 5 stars Poor radio, small buttons
I purchased the Rino 130 specifically because it also had theradio and NOAA features.Fortunately I read the other reviews on this model as well as the 120 and 110 versions that complained about poor radio performance. I tested the unit and sure enough the radio performance is absolutely terrible, and I was able to return the unit to Amazon in time for a full refund.Be sure to test this yourself. Also the buttons are very small, and the zoom function is impractical as you constantly have to activate the zoom and then slide the zoom level up and down.I returned the Rino 130 and purchased a Garmin Etrex Legend C (color display) for about the same price.I will miss the NOAA feature of the 130 but not the radio. This is an overpriced GPS.Spend the money on a color display unit instead and you will not be disappointed.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great GPS, so-so radio
Once you get over the cost of accessories, which can easily exceed your initial purchse, the biggest problem is the slow transfer speeds.Expect to waste over 60 minutes to download 24MB of maps.As noted just about everywhere else, the radio should be better than it is.The GPS itself works fantastically, has a lot of nice features, and is easy to use.

5-0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Hunting Tool (next to my gun)
The Garmin 130 arrived at my house about 36 hours before the deer hunting opener here in Wisconsin.I ordered a DVD getting started tutorial from another web site which got me started with the basics although the 130 is a feature-packed device that will be sure to keep the most gadget inclinced occupied for quite a while, but the basic features are fairly intuitive and easy to use with two basic buttons:the "click-stick" and the page/cancel button.I don't think the DVD tutorial was worth the money, but it's hard to say how much harder it would have been to get started without seeing it being operated by someone on the video.

A member of my party had a Garmin 120 last fall and I was anxious to unlock the power of the position tracking capabilities during the hunting season (for both him and myself). It proved very valuable while making drives with the compatible Garmin 120 as we were able to see each other's position in nearly real-time.It's not quite real time because the position of your buddies only updates when they release the talk button on their radio, so when we were trying to be quiet, we just got used to frequently keying the mic without transmitting any message.

I've read some complaints about the Garmin 130's radio capabilities, but I have to say it was one of my unexpected surprises with this unit.I had always borrowed a Motorola 2-way radio to use in previous seasons, so I not only stopped mooching off my buddies radios this year, but had best transmitting and receiving radio out of the group of 5 radios (and it was better than the Rino 120, too).On more than 1 occaision I had to translate for two buddies that couldn't hear each other, but I could hear both of them and they could hear me, so I translated for them (maybe I was right in the middle of them, but I think my radio was consistently a better performer under the same conditions and ranges throughout the season).

The 120 doesn't have as much memory and based on the comparison of the 130 and 120 in our camps this year, the satellite signal reception (affects accuracy of your position) and the radio signal strength were both better on the 130.

Other than my rifle, there's no other gear I will rely on more during a hunting season.

5-0 out of 5 stars There and back again
I used this item quite a bit in the Washington, DC area while learning to use it in preparation for a flintlock hunting and fishing trip to northern Quebec.

The RINO not only got me to Montreal with only the included base map, but also helped me get to my hotel near Dorval airport - no mean feat, if you have ever been in that part of Montreal.

From Montreal it was a long flight to a small lake in the boreal tundra, about 1,000 miles north. Here the RINO saved me from getting lost in thick alders on the first afternoon in camp.I established a waypoint at the float plane dock, and used the track feature to trace my wanderings. At first the radio was a pain, until I figured out how to adjust the volume and get rid of the beep that sounds when a transmission is incoming. (I left the manual at home) but it proved invaluable for keeping in touch with the guide and the other 5 members of my party. We stayed within three or four miles of base camp in hilly terrain with mostly low spruce and shrub vegetation. The radio worked flawlessly, and I was always able to reach the others and/or provide relay.Unfortunately, I was the only RINO user there so we could not take advantage of position reporting, but I did mark the locations of my companion's stands and a couple of caribou kills that I staked out for observing bears. It would have been very difficult to return to these spots without the GPS, as the terrain has a sameness to it from the point of view of a woodsman from the Virginia-Maryland-Pennsylvania corridor. One afternoon I took a caribou and paced the distance as 85 yards. As a test, I then measured the distance with the GPS -- 87 yards. Not bad at all!

Overall, I find the RINO to be very accurate and reliable. It has many useful features, and I used almost all of them.Even without the add-on map software, it is a great aid in driving and helped me get around highway bottle necks more than once or twice. It even gave me an ETA from the Wilmington DE area to my home in Bethesda MD that proved to be within 2 minutes of my actual arrival.

My only accesories are a cigarette lighter power supply and earphone/mike (unused) but I would strongly recommend some sort of holding device when using the unit in an auto. Also recommend having a co-pilot, as it can pull one's eyes and mind off the task of safe driving!!

Shortcomings:When used with the radio on, this baby can really chew up the voltage. My battery charger handles either two or four batteries at a time, and the RINO 130 requires three. Why are there no battery chargers that will charge multiples of three AA batteries? Even Garmin sells a set of 4 batteries and a charger for this item.

I am about to purchase the topo map software, and am looking forward to using it.
