1-0 out of 5 stars Heard great things, but wouldn't shut off on my deep cycles
This review is for the 2/10/20 Amp version, but my guess is that the technology is the same.

Everything I read on this charger told me it was the best I could get (reviews, the user manual, the product description, etc.) However, they (I bought two) simply would not consistently shut off when done charging my deep cycle marine batteries.

I have fairly large batteries (one series 27 and two series 29) and am not sure if that has something to do with it. They get stuck at about 3.2 amps and don't shut off; one night I went to bed and one battery was at 3.2 amps and the next morning it was at 5 amps and the battery was hot and boiling over (not so SMART!). The other battery had been fully charged and the charger shut off. I switched chargers and batteries around and could not find one charger or one battery that it consistently happened on, so it can only be the charger's design. Yes, my batteries are fairly new and I maintain the water level religiously.

Beware if you have bigger marine batteries...the first few times you try any of the Vectors make sure you are home and can check on them now and then to make sure the charger shuts off!

5-0 out of 5 stars New technology
Finally a manufacturer designed a battery charger using the same switching technology that makes computer power supplies so small, light, and powerful. Output is insensitive to input voltage drops, meaning, contrary to instructions, you can very conveniently use a light extension cord and still get full output. Disadvantage?: It is light enough to easily topple if not placed securely. Hefty output cables, battery clamps, and case with cable storage compartment.Another disadvantage: it is a multi-stage (several charging plans kick in), but one shot. Once the battery is fully charged, it turns off, and will not turn on again to keep the battery topped off. Suggestion for their next model. You can start your car from dead after 5 minutes. Highly recommend. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A suberb protectant!
This product is quite excellent, and extremely reliable. It lasts for months, and yet can't be seen once it has been applied. I've used it on laptops, PDAs, celll phones, computer screens, etc. I also use it on eyeglasses, as a replacement for the expensive anti-afflictive coatings which opticians try to sell you. Furthermore, If you accidentally spray some into a port on a computer, or into another place where there are sensitive electronic components, there is no effect. ... Read more

I couldn't be happier.

The SporTrak GPS is very awkward to use with the data and power cable--unless it connects through this bracket. If you own a SporTrak (or other compatible GPS), you've been through the tedious process of screwing the cable into the back of the unit. Not with this bracket.Just snap it in and forget it.Removal is equally easy.Outstanding! ... 1-0 out of 5 stars PRODUCT KNOWN BAD BY MANUFACTURER!!!
I purchased a copy of Magellan Worldwide Basemap. I installed it in my computer but it would not run. When this also happened to a second computer I installed it on I contacted Magellan Technical Support. After asking me about the relative positions of stickers on the back of the CD jewel case I was told I had a defective disk and was offered a replacement in 4 to 6 weeks! Since I will have returned from my trip to Europe before the replacement arrives the product is totally useless to me. Don't buy this product until they have "good" disks available. The good ones have the stickers on the back of the jewel case in an "L" configuration, on the bad disks the stickers are parallel.

1-0 out of 5 stars Elementary at best
I currently live in Asia.I purchases my Magellan on a trip home to Chicago.Back home, the default map displays almost all mapped roads and landmarks, and even some I didn't know existed.
I purchased MapSend so I could have decent maps of the area I live and travel in.
Silly me to think that it would perform with accuracy as it did back home...
The mapsend features in Asia where I've used it (Japan, Korea, Thailand, Philippines, Bangladesh) show at most 10 percent of the roads and landmarks, and all of those are displayed in horribly inaccurate positions (as much as 3 KM in some cases).
Were talking big landmarks including things like International Airports here.
A very poor product but one star given because it's better than nothing.

1-0 out of 5 stars Totally unusable!
After installing this software successfully, when I try to run the application it displays a popup stating it cannot find the CD (the CD is required to run the application) even though the CD is in the drive! So far, I have been totally unable to run this software: what a piece of junk!

3-0 out of 5 stars Basemap lacking if used as solitary software
I have a Magellan Meridian Platinum receiver. I purchased the Worldwide Basemap so that I could use my GPS on an upcoming trip to South America. In the 'States, I use the GPS in my vehicle as I travel, and as often as posible in the backcountry on backpacking trips.
I uploaded a region of the Basemap that included the US west of the Mississippi and northern Mexico. It only took 8Mb of memory (saved to a 32Mb card). I think this is a pretty small file for such a large area. The Basemap includes bigger cities and many major roads. It also includes topography in 200' increments.
The nice part about the basemap is that it seems to be better "georeferenced" than the default map. On a recent drive, for instance, we found ourselves driving around on water - at least according to the built-in map. Changing to the basemap we found ourselves still safe on the lake shore! I think it will be nice to have topography shown on cross-country drives. But that brings me to the down side of the Basemap.
The basemap has only a fraction of the cities and roads on it. My home city, with three highways intersecting in it, is not shown. And only one of the highways is shown, starting outside of town (though there is no evidence that the highway continues or that there is a town at all on the basemap). The default map shows all the highways, tiny cities, and even major streets. I thought the basemap would have all that is on the default map and more. That assumption was not correct. It has a lot on it, and more than the default, but not the cities, roads, and other "important" things that are nice to know while driving.
Of course, a detail map can also be uploaded (from MapSend Streets or Topo). When zoomed into a detail area, that map takes over. I suspect this is why the basemap is sorely lacking. The bad part of this is that detail maps take up more memory. Even worse is that there are no detail maps for many areas - like Iquitos, Peru. I will visit Iquitos in July, but the city does not even show up on the Basemap (Iquitos and the Amazon are both shown on Garmin's default map, not Magellan's). I bought this software for the sole reason of uploading an equivalent of the default map for other areas of the world. There isn't much topography at the Amazon, so the loaded basemap looks exactly like a blank screen! I will still get my use out of the Basemap in the US, but it is worthless for the purpose I bought it for.
I believe that most readers will be better served with the built-in default map for travelling in the US. Then consider getting the Mapsend Topo and/or MapSend Streets software first. Only get the Basemap when you have the money to burn. Even if travelling abroad, you might check the availability of a detail map before dropping the cash for the Basemap. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Radio
If you are looking for the most bang for your buck, this is it.In this price-range you just cannot beat the performance and features of this radio. The compact size is perfect for tight spaces and the modern design looks great.I highly recomend this CB.

5-0 out of 5 stars Antenna
The previous review that mentions antennas are key to a good CB setup is correct. For a normal CB user I would recommend either the Wilson lil' Wil or the Wilson 500 antenna. Both are magnetic mount antennas. The lil' Wil antenna is a relatively small antenna and it's only around $39.00. Actually any Wilson CB antenna will be fine. Also, to do a good job at setting up your antenna you should purchase an SWR meter. They are not expensive. You only need the meter connected inline between the radio and antenna when you are adjusting the antenna. Once you are done adjusting the antenna you can take the meter out of the connection and connect the antenna directly to the radio. Don't be fooled by cheap ordinary CB antennas like you will find at radio shack. Do not settle for anything less then a Wilson antenna. Cobra and Uniden both make fabulous CB radios so either make will be fine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best CB radio on the market
This CB is the best CB I have had in my life time and I already had 3 CB's besides this one and this one is the best of them. Its unique design and mobility can set up to a cigarette lighter in your car or truck although you might want an adaptor since it only comes with the cords and nothing to plug into the cigarette lighter. When you are talking to someone else your voice goes to them crystal clear and there voice is crystal clear too.I have not found yet why it has a sound tracker system since it does not clear the signal up anyway all it does is make it louder.Although it clears it up a small bit of the signal. When talking to someone squelch becomes useful to get rid of the static. This Cb is a best buy especially with the super saver shipping and no tax

4-0 out of 5 stars Cobra
This radio was bought for over the road traveling. I was attracted to this radio for several reasons weather radio, scan feature, and compact design. The radio has preformed excellent, and is small enough to put in any car or truck. I had only two problems with this radio, First the scan feature only works when the squelch is turned up high enough to elliminate "fuzz" which dosent allw you to pick up and scan weak signals, Second this radio dose not have a SWR meter(Standing Wave Ratio) which means to have your antenna tuned yu have to buy a SWR meter or take it to a CB shop which can be a hassle. Other than that this radio is perfect and dose a fine job.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice CB
I have had several different brands of radios and this one is a good enter level radio for the price has a nice front firing speaker which help to hear it. Also has which is a nice feature is the weather band. One thing that I would like to point out for the more advance user this radio will not cut it and they will not be happy. I use this radio in my company's work truck that is why I got a cheaper radio but I am very happy with the overall performance of this radio and the output power out of the box with a good stick you will be happy ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Playing by Garmin's Rules
If you purchase a Garmin product, especially this one, you are firmly in the clutches of a Company that gives you what they want you to have, not what you might want. Everything Garmin makes is proprietary so that nothing else will work on a Garmin. You will be unable to transfer data to Garmin media, you will be insulted by a website either written by or for aliens and should you call the customer service or cartography lines assuming you wish to wait and wait, you will get to talk to people so uninformed about Garmin products your wait was wasted. The dingus works ok with Garmin chips, but the chips are inadequate or incomplete.
If you should have a Mac, Garmin leaves you totally unsupported so that if you choose a Garmin you need to buy a PC, a downloader, and Garmin chips to go with Garmin's vastly overpriced CDs. In short, if you prefer unsupported products that are designed to force you to buy from a company indifferent to their customers, Garmin should be at the top of your list with their GPSMAP 276c.

4-0 out of 5 stars The "almost" perfect GPS-- Garmin GPS 276C
First, I purchased my 276c in September of 04 which means I've been using about 3 months. It was purchased to replace my Garmin GPSIII that I had used for around 6 years. The GPSIII still works great but has no detail maps available and no turn by turn directions, but for basic Lat/Long it still works perfect.
I compared the 276C to the Garmin Quest, Magellan RoadMate 700, and the Garmin Street Pilot Series.
I wanted it to be portable. Meaning I could use it in the car, boat, or walking/hiking.Basically I wanted to be able to use it just about anywhere, just like I used my GPSIII.This quickly narrowed my search down to the 276C and the quest. The others mentioned above are strictly automotive GPS units.Besides size, I couldn't find anything the quest had over the 276C.The 276C certainly is bigger but I liked the additional Screen Real-estate.

The 276C purchased with the automotive adapter does everything I want and it does it well. However, I have 3 complaints that keep it from getting a perfect score in my book.
These are not really in any particular order of importance.

#1 Proprietary Memory Stick that Only go up to 256MB
This Memory Stick holds all of the map data that helps you find addresses and specific sites. The one that comes with the automotive kit is only 128MB.You can't just go get another one of these anywhere because it is a proprietary design. The 128MB one I have had enough storage to download all the map data between Austin, Texas and Las Vegas, Nevada. We drove to Vegas from Austin in November and the 276C worked great.I wish it wasn't a proprietary design or I wish they at least offered a larger model that would hold the entire US.

#2 Cheap, Cheap, Cheap Car adapter.I read this on another review site before I bought mine. And they were right. The threading that holds the fuse in place is plastic. Pulling the unit out of the car power plug puts stress on the threads.Mine broke last week but was quickly replaced by an authorized Garmin dealer. This is another item you can't just buy anywhere because the car adapter has the built in speaker.I don't expect the new adapter to last long either.I move mine between cars several times a week.

#3 File this one under being very picky.
If the address of your destination is on a one way street the 276C will try to route you around the block so that you can come back down the one way street. This is fine except when the location is really on the corner of a one way street with an entrance on the side street. The unit will literally route you right past the side entrance to the next street that will allow you to go up a few blocks so that you can come right back down to the location on the one way street. I don't know if the automotive only GPS units would handle this situation any better.

That's it.
We drove over 3000 miles on our trip in November and used the 276C extensively the whole way.
Regards,
Alan

4-0 out of 5 stars Really nice road GPS - for the right application
You can get the automotive kit (detailed map CD, memory card, mount, and cig lighter plug/speaker) and turn this into a turn-by-turn road GPS. The cost of the 276c + the auto kit is MORE than the 2610, so for a lot of folks the 2610 would be a better buy. Both have faster processors for quicker route calculations, both have base maps containing all the major roads, cities, and highways.

Pros and cons of the 276c VS the 2610:

1) The display on the 276c is larger and much nicer looking than that of the Garmin 2610 - in MOST lighting conditions. The 276c is a LOT easier to read with the sun behind you than the 2610, and looks nicer at night. Going toward the sun the reflective LCD loses out to the 2610.

2) The 276c includes a lithium ion battery - the 2610 has to have 12v to operate since it has no batteries or battery compartment. The 276c can last for HOURS on a charged battery. Combined with a lighter weight this makes the 276 more versatile an can be used on a hike or for geocaching.

3) The 2610 costs less with the current $100 rebate and includes every thing you need to get on the road

4) The 2610 takes standard (and cheap) compact flash memory cards. The entire map set (USA,some Canada and Mexico) takes around 1.4gb so a 2gb could hold it all. Most folks could just get a 1gb CF card and get most of the US on it and be fine. The 276c takes the Garmin memory cards, the max is 256mb and is $125 and up. Even a 128mb card is $80 or more. A 128 card can take maybe 2-3 states. The base maps are in the GPS so you still navigate the "big roads" without re-loading maps, but the 2610 means load it once and forget it.

5) The 2610 has a touch screen and remote control. If you are going to use the GPS in a car the remote can be handy - let a passenger operate the GPS while you drive. The touch screen means greasy finger smears on the screen if you are not careful. For use on a motorcycle the real buttons of the 276c are much preferred and the remote would be useless. The touch screen does make spelling a city name or point of interest a lot easier.

6) The 276c has more options for the way the data is displayed on the screen. You can have it show voltage, battery time remaining, heading, altitude - just about anything on the screen. The 2610 has some flexibility but the number and position of the fields is limited.

7) No detail maps with the 276c. As I mentioned you have to buy the detailed maps plus a memory card to get street level detail. This GPS takes the same maps as the GPS V - and Garmin lets you unlock 2 GPS units with the same map CD set. So if you already have a GPS V (I do) then you can just unlock the maps for your new 276c for free - just get a memory card. The number of POIs and amount of detail is said to be the same between the maps for the 276c and the 2610, but the 2610 is said to have more route/calculation options so the resulting route MIGHT be a little better on the 2610.

8) The 276c has extra features - the whole marine set of stuff plus takes optional external sensors. The 276c also shows sun/moon rise/set times for any location as well as tide and fishing info.

Both will do turn by turn with voice prompts (optional speaker needed for 276c) and let you find the closest Burger King or gas station. The 276c is more expensive but more flexible since it can be used outside of the car, on a boat, and more easily on a motorcycle. Some others to look at are the Tom Tom Go (has a battery, but has other flaws and is not designed to be used on a motorcycle) and the RoadMate series. Cobra has a new GPS out now as well - like the 2620 it has all the maps pre-loaded so no PC is needed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Design flaw...
The Humminbird Piranha series is great, but it has a design flaw. The suction-cup mount forces the transducer to point in a single direction. Not good for a canoe without a transom. It always points off to one side of the canoe! The solution is a clamp-on transducer mount made by Tite-Lok which allows articulation in any desired direction. The best price I've found is at jandhproducts.comHappy fishing! ... 3-0 out of 5 stars XP drivers don't work
Worked great under 2000 but not XP.Others say differently, so you're on your own.

5-0 out of 5 stars Garmin USB Data card programmer
It would be impracticale to buy a memory card larger than 32 meg without buying this product.I had the 32 meg memory card, and it took about 8 hours to load the maps in using a serial connection (cut the battery life in half while flashing). Now I flash a 128 meg card with the usb programmer, and the total time to load ~127 megs of maps (including indexing time) is about 13 minutes. This was on a 400 MHz Windows 2000 computer. If you have a faster computer, it may be able to index the maps faster. I highly recommend this product.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy, efficient, and speedy!
From 22 minutes to 22 seconds! That's the difference between loading one region from my MetroGuide CD to an 8mb data card using this programmer instead of using the serial cable. It took slightly less than 4 minutes to load a 61.4mb file (9 maps) to my 64mb card. That included building the map set, erasing the former map set, transferring the files, and then verifying the files. This same transfer took over two hours in the past. If you are in no rush and you don't change areas much, obviously the programmer is not necessary. You may even choose to get a larger data card for your needs. But if you travel to different places and rent a car, or you plan to make a long trip, save your time and batteries and invest in this programmer.

I run it on Windows XP. Initially it did not work, but a trip to Garmin's website enabled me to download the latest drivers. No problems thereafter.

4-0 out of 5 stars USB Data Card Programmer
I really liked the Data Card Programmer on my old operating software Windows 98 & ME. It is very fast and a must if you don't want to burn up batteries when downloading maps. However I have not been able to make it work with my XP software. I have even downloaded the new USB drivers from the Garmin Web site (v 2.5.0.0).The first time I used it, (USB driver version 2.3) my 32Mb card was destroyed only 720Kb was left useable. While Garmin replaced the card and put out a new set of USB drivers (9/19/02), I still cannot get it to work with XP at least it no longer destroys the card. When they get the drivers fixed this is an item to buy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Talk about a time saver
Uploading and downloading info to your Garmin GPS using the serial data link may not take that much time if you only use the smaller data cards. However, when you start getting up to the 32 or 64 MB range, the time it takes to use the regular serial link is ridiculous. It took about 10 minutes to fill up my 8mb card using the normal link to my eMap. Not really a big deal. However, when I got a 32MB card, it took over an hour to fill up my cross country trip details. For my next trip, I picked up the USB programmer. I tested it with my 8MB card and a few routes. On the serial link it took about 6 minutes. The USB was done in about 15 seconds. I thought it wasn't working, so after a few minutes of trouble shooting, I realized that not only was it working correctly, but it was working very fast. Very nice.
Note: The 32Mb card took a little over 2 minutes to completely fill. ... Read more
