This item is such a great value.Everything included is a basic necessity.For anyone interested in getting into boxing, I suggest this set as your first purchase

Great training aid
This set includes the speed bag and mounting platform, speed bag training gloves, hand wraps, and a jump rope. I'm mainly a karate and kung-fu student and teacher, but I've done some boxing too, and one of the best exercises you can learn to enhance speed and agility is the classic boxing workout on the speed bag. More martial artists should use this great training tool. I never got to the point where I could mix in things like elbow strikes and head butts in-between punches like the real experts, but I got pretty good just hitting it with straight punches and back hammerfists and could really get it going that way. If you're going to try this, keep your shoulders loose and try to hit with proper rhythm and timing--those are the key elements. Don't try to go real hard and fast in the beginning, as you'll only be able to hit it once or twice before you miss. Start slow and build up from there. Altogether a great training for martial artists of all styles and stripes.

The jump rope is a nice extra although perhaps not as essential for karate students. That's because a boxer is poised on the balls of his feet, and his most powerful punch is the hook, which travels in an arc. A karate thrust punch is just the opposite. Karateists punch flat-footed and the punch is from the hips and travels in a straight line, so the karateist isn't always bouncing around on the balls of his feet like a boxer. He's more likely to shift stances and move only when necessary to adjust distance, although that depends on the individual fighter, too.

I had purchased one of these Nalgene wide-mouth 32-oz bottles from the bookstore at my university, and unfortunately lost it.When I returned to the bookstore to buy a replacement, the bookstore had run out.I really like the design, so I decided to check Amazon's new Sporting Goods store to see if I could find one here.

My husband and I like the DVD a lot, it's a great introduction on how to work out with the heavybag. Very sympathetic trainer, charming. Playing time (a half hour) is a bit short, obviously also has been shortened. Makes you want more.

Fuel Belts
Fuel Belts are a great way to carry water or sport drinks on longer runs.The belts never rub or cause wear on your shirts even on the longest, hottest runs (unlike some other water belts that I have used).They're comfortable and easily adjustable.

The bottles however do not seal well and can be very difficult to use while actually running.The lack of gaskets within the caps,combined with the soft bottles, mean that you can easily end up squirting sticky sport drinks on yourself while trying to combine running and drinking. I've found that I really need to stop or remove the cap to effectively use the bottles. Finally, they can be somewhat difficult to clean.

A good product, and much better than many of the alternatives, but not perfect.

Excellent weight distribution, bottles cheaply made
I love the belt itself - it fits tightly and I barely notice it's on me, even on my longer runs (15-20 miles).The front pouch is small, OK for keys but not more than two packs of gel, which is just enough for me.

The problem I have are the bottles themselves.I think in the effort to make them flexible and easy to empty, the area where it connects and seals with the cap are porly made and/or the caps themselves aren't the best.I had one cap crack within a few weeks of use, and one that doesn't seal properly between the cap and bottle, making it leak a little.

Because of this I use it for easier runs where I have a second source of hydration (ie, water fountains somewhere on my route), but I wouldn't rely on it for long distance runs where I must reply on them 100%.

Overall I think the belt itself is one of my favorite items to use, it's only a bit of a shame that the bottles aren't of better quality. ... Read more

Good stand, previous review is right about weights
The previous review is absolultely correct about the weights.If you don't have weights on the legs the stand it will, in fact fly about your basement.

I'd also recommend a double-ended bag (i.e., with a D-ring on the bottom of the bag).It decreases bag-sway.I'm just using 2 bungee cords to tie it down to the stand but that seems to work out pretty well (instead of a proper Shock Cord).Very helpful for practicing kicks.

On top of the weights, I've also added 2 40-lb bags of water-softening salt on the front-legs for even more stability.There's nothing special about that kind of salt, I just happened to have them around.It looks a little Rube Goldberg, but for the price I'm willing to live with it.

The speed-bag stand is nice.Loud, but nice.

I ordered the 4790 heavy bag stand recently.I have limited boxing experience, but I'm not brand new to the sport.I'm a 215 pound heavyweight, and before I put weights on this stand to hold it down, I was bouncing it all over my basement with an 80 pound bag attached.Just add the weights and this is a great stand.
A REAL plus to this stand is that the legs are nice and wide, and don't protrude too far out. This allows for some great movement with the bag, and gives a good chance to work on footwork and body movement in your bag workouts.

About Everlast
The name Everlast is synonymous with boxing. Renown internationally as a manufacturer of boxing equipment, Everlast started out as a swimwear manufacturer in 1910. Headquartered in the Bronx, NY, the company was founded by 17-year-old Jacob Golomb. The son of a tailor and an avid swimmer, Jacob Golomb was dissatisfied with the durability of swimsuits because they barely lasted a season, so he began making suits that he guaranteed would last for a full year. He proudly gave them the name, Everlast. Although the swimsuits did not last through the years, the name did.

Over the next years, Golomb expanded his company into a small retail store that carried a full line of sports equipment. In 1917, a young fighter named Jack Dempsey introduced boxing to Golomb and Everlast. Dempsey asked Golomb to construct protective headgear that would last more than 15 rounds of intensive boxing training. Golomb specially designed the training gear for Dempsey. In 1919, Dempsey won the world’s heavyweight championship wearing boxing gloves made for him by Golomb. Everlast became the headquarters for boxing equipment throughout the world. In 1925, Golomb designed elastic-waist trunks to replace the leather-belted trunks then worn by boxers. These trunks, now known as boxer trunks, immediately became famous. Jacob Golomb ran the business until he passed away in the early 1950’s and his son, Dan, took over. In 1958, Ben Nadorf joined Everlast and purchased 50% of the company from the Golomb family. When Dan Golomb passed away in 1995, Nadorf purchased the family’s remaining 50% interest. Nadorf remained the President and Principle Share Holder of Everlast until October 24, 2000.

Everlast men’s and women’s apparel and accessories continue today to be tremendously successful both inside and outside the ring. In addition, Everlast boxing trunks and equipment remain the proud and undefeated champion of the boxing industry for more than 90 years. The history continues, as the name states.
