5-0 out of 5 stars Sleep in comfort
I have been sleeping in hammocks for five years now.I have had problems sleeping in beds for years.Because of my wide shoulders I cannot sleep on my side without "throwing my back out".I had purchased a bed that cost a couple of thousand dollars and when that did not take care of the problem, I did some thinking about how people have slept over the course of human history.

It occured to me that peoples who slept in hammocks seemed to stay with them longer then societies that slept on mats or beds of various kinds.I also found that hammocks seem to have evolved in all of the warm climate areas and since we no longer sleep out doors (not here in Maine anyway), I thought it made some sense to give it a try.

I have been sleeping very comfortably in a "Mayan" style hammock for these five years and needed to replace mine.I bought the "Taino" and found it to be more comfortable to sleep in than the "Mayan" style. It does not sag in the center as much, so that my arms are not pressed up against me, that might be something you would enjoy, but not I.Over time the smaller threads of the "Mayan" style get snagged and broken and repairs can be a little difficult when more then one are broken.Because of my three dogs, I need a hammock that can withstand some abuse (Yes, one of them has learned to sleep in the hammock with me) and the thicker cord is a positive in that respect.

My wife asked me to buy her a new "Taino" hammock to replace hers, so I ordered another one today.

If you are looking for a great nights sleep, this is the hammock I would recommend.

Peace,
James

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth it!
It was more than I expected. It was easy to hang, looks good, and most of all it is as comfortable as advertised. Too bad I don't have more places to hang more hammocks.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better Than a Bed
Proof positive that you don't have to hanging under a palm tree on a white sandy beach to fully appreciate the hammock experience! These hammocks are perhaps the most blissful place one can rest, and it really doesn't matterwhether they are hung between support walls in your living room or strungbetween two trees in the backyard. I have spent countless hours perfectingmy hammock posture and in the course of this perfection have test-driven awhole bunch of hammocks. I can, with absolute certainty, tell you that thishammock is the stuff dreams are made of. It is constructed of a durable andsoft cotton that breathes with you and doesn't cause itchiness or thatunpleasant "Plastic" feeling. When it is strung up right, you caneither lay horizontally or vertically - it matters not because it'samazingly comfortable either way. Some of my most peaceful sleep anddreamiest dreams have come from hammock-induced slumber. I stronglyrecommend it for any and everyone considering their sleeping alternatives. The hammock isn't banished to the tropics anymore, and in fact looks justgreat in my Kansas living room. Trust me - get a little tired and get a bigole hammock! This one in partiucular will make your socks roll up and down! ... Read more

Columbia's extensive product line includes a wide variety of outerwear, sportswear, rugged footwear and accessories. Columbia specializes in developing innovative products that are functional yet stylish and offer great value. Eighty-year-old matriarch Gert Boyle, Chairman of the Board, and her son, Tim Boyle, President and CEO, lead the company. Columbia's history starts with Gert's parents, Paul and Marie Lamfrom, when they fled Germany in 1937. They bought a small hat distributorship in Portland, Oregon, and named it Columbia Hat Company, after the river bordering the city. Soon frustrated by poor deliveries from suppliers, the Lamfroms decided to start manufacturing products themselves. In 1948, Gert married college sweetheart Neal Boyle, who joined the family business and later took the helm of the growing company. When Neal suddenly died of a heart attack in 1970, Gert enlisted help from Tim, then a college senior. After that it wasn't long before business really started to take off. Columbia was one of the first companies to make jackets from waterproof/breathable fabric. They introduced the breakthrough technology called the Columbia Interchange System, in which a shell and liner combine for multiple wearing options. In the early 1980s, then 60 year-old Gert began her role as "Mother Boyle" in Columbia's successful and popular advertising campaign. 5-0 out of 5 stars Arch Cape Capris - Gimme More!
Great (!)quick-dry pants for everyday wear at home or travel. I bought one pair and liked them so much I've collected a half dozen more in multiple colors. Peach-soft feel, cool even in the hottest climates, easy fit with drawstring waist, the "capri" length is long on me, but looks fine as a "crop." The pant can be adjusted for fit-at-waist or low-ride. Wonderful pants for easy care: machine wash and dry or handwash in hotel sink or jungle bucket, hang up for no-wrinkle fast drying. Runs true to size. Huge thumbs up for these superb pants.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice Emergency Flashlight
You'll never mistake the Shake flashlight for a powerful spotlight, but that's not it's purpose. It's a niche item, the perfect flashlight to stick in your car trunk or emergency bag and then forget about it.With no batteries or bulbs, you know it'll always be ready for use whenever you need it.

When it first arrives, you'll need to shake it hard for a couple minutes to charge it up, but just think of it as aerobic exercise.Once it's charged, it provides sufficient light to read instructions or maps, determine colors of wires or diagrams, and keep you from stumbling around in the dark.I was surprised by just how bright the Shake flashlight was after about 3 minutes of hard shaking. The only improvement I can think of would be to have a small diode glow when the flashlight is turned off. When the light begins to dim, a few shakes will keep the light strong enough to use.

Unlike the previous reviewer, I had absolutely no problems with delivery - I ordered it on 12/26 (non-expedited mail) and it arrived on 12/30, exactly as described.

Amazon.com Sleeping Bag Guide
Sleep Well: Finding the Right Sleeping Bag
Sleeping bag technology has come a long way from the days of cowboy bedrolls. These days, there are a number of high-tech materials and designs available to keep you warm during the coldest outings. Here's a short list of things to keep in mind when you're shopping for a bag:

Buy for Cold
It's a safe bet that on at least one of your adventures, the nighttime temperature will drop unexpectedly. That's why it's smart to buy a bag that's rated for the lowest possible temperature you expect to face on your camping and backpacking trips. For summer trips, a bag rated at +35 degrees or higher will likely do the trick. If you like to camp in higher elevations in the summer, or if spring and fall outings are in your future, consider bags rated from +10 to +35. Winter adventurers should look for bags in the -10 to +10 range, while those on serious winter alpine climbs and expeditions will want a bag rated lower than -10.

Keep in mind that sleeping bag manufacturers' temperature ratings only estimate the minimum temperature at which the bag will provide warmth. Take these numbers with a grain of salt, as different folks generate different amounts of heat when they sleep. If you're the type who likes to pile on the covers even on warmer nights, go for a bag that's rated ten degrees colder. The opposite is true for "warm" sleepers--a 35-degree bag will probably work for you on a 25-degree night.

Goose or No Goose?
The most important component of any sleeping bag is its insulating material. Modern sleeping bags offer two choices: goose down or synthetic. While both materials have advantages and disadvantages, down bags are considered superior because of their phenomenal warmth-to-weight and warmth-to-bulk ratios. While providing great insulation, down is extremely compressible and light. There's a reason why geese can fly and stay warm through the winter! Down also boasts great long-term durability and will typically retain its insulating properties after years of use.

All of that said, there are many high-quality synthetic bags on the market and synthetic materials are getting better all the time. While a synthetic bag will weigh somewhat more than a down bag at an equivalent temperature rating, synthetic bags perform better when wet. (Yes, the Achilles heel of down is that it loses all insulating properties when wet.) If your trips take you to wet climates, you may want to consider a synthetic bag for this reason alone. Keep in mind, too, that many people are allergic to down--synthetic bags are non-allergenic. Finally, down is considerably more expensive than synthetic, which might tip the balance for adventurers on a budget.

Bags for All Shapes
Sleeping bags come in two basic shapes that reflect their intended use. Mummy-shaped bags offer the best warmth because they conform to the body's contours. This minimizes the amount of body heat the body must put out to maintain a constant temperature. Many mummy bags are offered in women-specific shapes and sizes, as well. Rectangular bags, while they do offer more room to toss and turn, are less thermally efficient because they contain more open air space. Also, they are typically heavier than mummy bags, and are generally not offered with down insulation, making them best suited for car camping or short backpacking trips.

Pad Yourself
No matter what kind of bag you choose, a sleeping pad is a required accessory. Not only do they provide much-needed comfort when sleeping on the ground, pads also offer crucial warmth for your backside, as the weight of your body compresses--and renders virtually useless--the sleeping bag insulation that lies beneath you.

3-0 out of 5 stars Incorrect info in description
The true weight of this item, after weighing myself with and then without the bag, is 6 pounds. On the box it also clearly states that it is good to 35 degrees, not 25 as listed in this description. The "3 lb" noted is the weight of the fill, not the bag.

My dog loves the bag so she may get it for a bed.Luckily I signed up for the credit card and got $30 off the price so $25 for a pup bed isn't too bad.

It is really nice and plush and the pillow is great.I just received it and haven't actually used it under real camping conditions, but I think it may be too big and/or too heavy to take on my hike.I'll give it a shot and write a revised review. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Flexible, comfortable, roomy, but some quirks...
For starters I CANNOT even attempt at telling you if this bag will keep you comfortable to its rating as I live and camp in TEXAS. So here is my review from my experience.
This bag has been comfortable for use in early spring South-East Texas camping with the liner removed. Overnight lows near 40f. I am a big man of about 270lbs, 6'1" tall, and this bag is roomy, with enough room for me to not feel claustrophobic. This is an excellent bag for the price. The zip off hood is an excellent idea, as is the removable liner. The zippers leave a LOT to be desired. I honestly prefer Coleman's Zip-Plow zippers. This bag is also not as light as it should be. But for the price that is a mere foible. Perhaps Wenger can produce a similar bag with DuPont Thermolite insulation to cut back on the weight, and stuffed size of the bag. I am looking forward to camping with this bag with just the sheet / liner this summer in the Texas heat as I am the sort that has to have SOMETHING over me when I sleep. I think this is just about the perfect bag for most folks. Hardcore backpackers / fastpackers and mountaineers will hate this bag due to it's stuffed size and weight, but to be honest, it is no heavier / bulkier than my 15 year old Slumberjack 15 degree mummy bag, and it is a LOT more comfortable. If it weren't for the size / weight of this bag, and the quirky, get stuck on the draft tube zippers, I would rate this bag at a 5.
