1-0 out of 5 stars The worst product from Maglite
This is easily the worst product Maglite has ever produced. It's bright allright -- right out of the package. Carry it a few days on your keychain, and the output is dim and flickery. Reseating the tail cap gets rid of the flicker, but you have to do it every time you want to use it. And it stays dim. My advice: Go to the nearest Wal-Mart and get a Dorcy 1-AAA LED. It's slightly larger than the Mag Solitaire, but for $4.99 you'll get a light that's more reliable, brighter and has longer battery life. And you'll never have to change a bulb, too.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good light, but limited uses
This light is decent for the cost and what it does. I keep mine in the car in case I need to fumble around in the seat looking for something.

Beyond that, the light is really limited though.

1-0 out of 5 stars Archaic technology-Go LED or CF.
Conventional flashlights like these are archaic; I have one of these Black AAA Mag-Lites I got as vendorware, but I wouldn't pay for it.Any battery-operated light you buy these days should be LED or flourescent.
Otherwise, the light is far bulkier than it need be.
LED-based flashlights have bulbs (LEDs) that virtually never burn out, and can use smaller batteries, as batteries last about 3x as long, so they can be smaller and lighter.
(The only exception I can think of for flashlights with conventional (incandescent or halogen bulbs) is for those that are used as batons, like the ones police officers carry, where the weight is an advantage.)
Portable fluorescent lights can use much smaller batteries, as batteries last about 5x as long, so they can be much lighter, and about the same size, as the bulb takes up the space the batteries used to take up.

LED and flourescent battery-operated lights are are available at low prices now - far less than conventionals when you factor in the convenience, costs of batteries, etc, but about 2x the price initially, if you shop around.I have a couple of each.Often they're not stocked with the conventional flashlights; I often see portable fluorescents in the closet sections - made to be put in a closet and run off a battery.

2-0 out of 5 stars Dont like it!
I have 2 of these and dont like them.
you have to turn the head too many times to get to the proper beam for general lighting.
I highly recommend you get the next model up.
"Mini Maglite" that takes 2 AAA's is the best, best lighting and not too big or small.
I have 3 of them, love them.
ran over one and it still works great.
I have 1 of the 2 AA model which is the next size up.
Just like the next size smaller its horrible.
Good luck!
Also, Maglite is the best you can buy period, do not be cheap and try other brands you'll be let down, soon!

4-0 out of 5 stars Keychain
I had one of these on my keychain with car keys for several years.Every once in a while, it would unscrew and the battery section would fall off.It usually ended up in bottom of my purse and I would put it back together. One day, I never found it and had to throw it away.
I plan to buy another to keep in my briefcase. It's a great flashlight and was handy. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Superb.
I make research with dry skulls, so I need a powerful portable light to carry in the pocket of my lab overall to see trough the facial bones. I spent a lot of money in small flashlights, from beautiful but dim MagLites to chinese cheapies like the Soncas (Great value for the money).
Well, this flashlight rocks: It is the best small flashlight I have. It gives me the same amount of usable light that a larger, heavier and more expensive 3 cell Surefire 9P with the P91 brighter bulb, and the cap remains cooler also.

The more I known about the limitations of SMALL flashlights, the more I love my Scorpion.

5-0 out of 5 stars That's 6,500 Candlepower alright!
One night I was fixing my speakers in the rear of the car. I used my Scorpion Streamlight to give me some extra light. For some reason I accidently left the flashlight on when it was sitting on the backseat. Meanwhile, several minutes later I smelled some burning and it was the Scorpion slowly burning a hole through my back seat. I was upset but surprised by the power of this little flashlight. Whenever I bust out this little guy out my friends react in awe by how much light comes from this little flashlight. I'm quite pleased but the batteries aren't cheap. My advice on batteries are to look for some on Ebay that run cheaper and buy in bulk. It has a nice rubberized grip for nice handling. I even hold it with my teeth when my hands are occuppied as I look at my engine in my car at night. This flashlight kicks the shizzle out of a maglite but it really drains the batteries if you have it one for a long time.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good general purpose flashlight
Streamlight Scorpion is a very good general purpose flashlight, as the light is bright, and quite even when the beam is set tigth. The light is easy to operate with tailcap end click-on switch, but there is no separate momentary switch. You can depress the click-on switch halfway down to get the same effect, but that is not as good a solution as a separate momentary switch would have been.

The light is brigth with fresh batteries, but the light dims quite fast as the batteries are used. The light bulb heats up with constant use, and that can melt a hole into the plastic lens. That has happened twice to me, as the light has been clicked on accidentally without me noticing that. The light beam is adjustable, but when adjusted wide, there are some serious dark rings on the beam. The body of the flashlight is covered with rubber sleeve. I like the feel of that, although it is possible that the flashlight can stick to clothing when removed from pocket, but I haven't any problems like that.

This flashlight is a very good choice for general purpose flashlight, and the price is reasonable. It is not suitable for a tactical light (for law enforcement, for example), mainly because it has no momentary switch.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bright Light in a Small Package
The Streamlight Scorpion is a small light that puts out a lot of brightness for its size.

Powered by 2, 3-volt lithium batteries this flashlight is pretty small (both in diameter and length). You'll be amazed how such a small flashlight can light up a room or an object at night.

The pushbutton switch is on the bottom of the light, so that might take getting used to. It's a three function switch (on/off/momentary on). The body of the flashlight is coated with rubber, so it's easy to grip if your hands are wet. However, this makes it difficult to bring out if you keep it in your pants pocket or a holster.

The beam quality is nice: no "holes" or "rings" in the spotlight.

Pluses: small size, bright light, manufacturer with good reputation for quality, lithium batteries have 10 year shelf life.

Minues: Takes 3-Volt lithium batteries (can be expensive), flashlight is fairly expensive.

This is a good light to keep in the car glove compartment for emergencies because it's small and the lithium batteries will keep for a long time.

Would I buy this again? Yes, but because of the cost I would make sure that I don't lose it. ... Read more

Few products meet the expectations you have when initially purchased. For the elite few, you don't forget them. This jacket is one of mine...

I bought this jacket two years ago as I was reducing the weight of my backpack equipment but not willing to spend hundreds of dollars for designer label. The jacket is unbelievably light, works as expected, and is more breathable than any jacket I've ever worn.It performed well during an all day drizzle and at various times of heavy rain.

You won't want to wear it as a fashion statement.

An interesting aside: My wife found it in my closet one day and used it on a day trip to the zoo.It took me two months to wrestle it back from her. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great light for the price
There are lots of better lights out there. But for less then $20, you can't beat the price for this flashlight. Especially if you just need something to have around the house.

The only real problem I have with this light is that the switch tends to come off fairly easy. It's not too hard to put it back on, and if you lose it, it's fairly cheap to replace (less then $2). But still annoying.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply the Best.
Though this 2D model is slightly smaller than the 4D model that many people are familar with, this model is just as useful. In fact, I prefer the 2D model because it's easier to handle and not as awkward to carry as the longer 4D model. The light in this baby shines bright enough to almost completely illuminate a small room. If you so desire, you can focus the beam or let it spill out. The bulb hardly ever has to be replaced and even if you use the inexpensive batteries, they don't need to be replaced as often either (the light sucks ALL the juice out). Besides just being a great flashlight, the Mag-Lite 2D also works well as a club--you can actually knock someone out cold. A great tool; one that every home should at least have one of.

1-0 out of 5 stars Long-time customer'sfirst time warranty claim ignored!
3 weeks ago, I contacted Maglite for a replacement switch for my 4-D flashlight, in which the switch failed. The customer service rep asked me for my serial number, which I gave her and she assured me that I could get a replacement switch.I gave her my name and address and she said that a shipment had just gone out, and it would be in the next shipment. That was fine with me.Days turned into weeks.Still no part.More days went by.STILL no part in the mail.

Hmmmm. Is this how long time customers are treated?I previous owned a variety of their flashlights, from an AAA Solitaire to a 5-D flashlight, at least 5 in total. My dad has purchased in the neighborhood of 15 or more himself, starting in about '86 when someone else turned him onto Maglites.

Customer support is as important to me as the product itself.Has customer support become a casualty of a tough economy?

This long-time customer will have to look at alternatives the next time he's buying a flashlight.

2-0 out of 5 stars Okay for the price, but significantly outdated technology
    Positives:
    *built like a tank
    *reliable
    *Well designed switch

    Negatives:

*extremely poor beam quality (full of holes and rings, yellow-brown beam color)
*old technology (doesn't use a Luxeon star LED bulb)
    *Very little usable sidespill

Overall:For a $20'ish light, its fine for the average person that is satisfied with a mediocre flashlight. However, the excessively poor beam quality (yellow beam that turns brown as the batteries dim, plus rings and holes in the beam) and mediocre sidespill really take lots away from this outdated flashlight.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best
What else can I add to the growing great reviews for this product?

All I can say is that this is one of the best flash lights I have ever used.I like it so much that I bought two of these: one for work and one for my car.

I work the night shift.I use the work one often. It is bright and very solid. The size is just about right. It is not too big like its larger brothers, but just big enough to feel secure while holding it.

A great value! If you are looking to buy a flashlight, look no further. This is the perfect one for the home consumer. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars First one to work right for me!
I am 48 and have a bad back. My daughter lives in another state so she can not help me.My husband had a stroke in `89 & is paralyzed on one side...so he can not help me.Ok, I can not use the air pumps at stations as they are very heavy, to heavy for me and I can not lean over for long that far.I have tried cheap air pumps, they don't work for me. I even bought one for $79 and it is good but you have to hold it on the tire air stem and when I tried it, I lost ALL the air in my tire. lol I could not keep a good seal.
(and that one took me over 10 min's and over 20 min's for my daughter to refill the tire....she was home for the weekend.)
I need to be able to do this myself , no problems, when I need it.
I tried this today (got it yesterday) and it worked GREAT!!!)
First, the hose you use to attach to the tire stem is just the right size and screws on for a GREAT fit and seal!
Next, it sits on the ground, a must for me, I can not lean over any longer then it takes to attach it.
It also has a gage on it that helps. When it says 40, my tire pressure is about 33 (it needs to be 30) so I need to learn what is what, it goes 20-40 and when putting the air in..turn it off and it goes to right mark, it reads a tad high.
But easy to learn what the right mark is from using it. Everything but the big hose you use for air matterss, etc. is stored inside and attached. I love it.
Also, I have a ford taurus wagon and the air stem angles a bit to the side, even my daughter had problems (no problems with her Aztec as the stem is straight out) but with this hose, doesn't matter what the angle of the stem is, it works fine and is VERY easy to attach and use.
If you have any problems, as I have, this worksgreat and worth every penney. Oh, it took me under 12 min's to do 2 tires! (including attaching and unattaching each tire.)
    I hope this helps some.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works great!!!
Do not waste your time or money buying less expensive ones. It works as advertised. Inflate a completely flat car tire in about 3-4 minutes or much less time if you just need to add air periodically. No need to jack up the car. The connector for the car tires is the best I've ever seen. It screws directly to the stem with absolutely no air loss. Unlike the cheap clip-on ones that the other companies use. Coleman has always made high quality products and this is no exception. Much better than the previous 3 pumps that I bought and threw away, totally useless.

2-0 out of 5 stars Very Expensive
If you're looking to buy an air pump for your car, why buy something so expensive, when there are products available for under $10.. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for making 3 egg omlets
I love cooking with cast iron. This pan is great for making those 3 egg omlets, pancakes, fried eggs, etc. The low lip makes it easy to get the spatula under the eggs and flip them. On the down side if you fry bacon or sausages in it, the grease will spatter the stove. On a campfire that of course won't be a problem.

However if you have limited space in your kitchen cabinet get the combo cooker. The lid is nearly as large as this one and you get the fry pan as well.

On the plus side, this pan being thin fits right under the stack of cast iron pans I already own. So if you cook for a large family and want to serve everyone faster, this is a good way to go as an additional pan. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Handy little light
I love my mini maglite - it's perfect for keeping in my purse for those times when I'm stuck and in need of light. It comes in handy all the time! I recently gave this light as a gift to a 12 year old boy, and he loved it too. It's just so reliable, sturdy, and the bulb lasts for ages and ages. The price is great for something that will last forever.

    5-0 out of 5 stars It's a mag
I've had one of these for a while. It's very reliable, durable & convinient because of it's size. The worst that has ever happened to my maglite was for the bulb to break when I was busy messing around with it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best flashlight ever
I can't reiterate enough what the other reviewers have said about the mini-mag Light.I own about 4 or 5 of these things and they are great.I have previously owned maybe 15 to 20 other plastic flashlights in the past and all have bit the dust.Broken case is the number 1 reason due to a drop or being stepped on.For some other reason, these others have crummy switches which fail easily.NOT THE MAG LIGHT.The switch is simple and tough (I know since I've taken it apart)The battery life is great, the case is highly durable.I love the candle mode (i.e. take the head off completely)I have also mixed and matched parts from different colors to make mine unique. My 3 year old son loves his and it is easy for him to turn on or off.He is really rough with his toys, but has never stopped the mini mag.(Warning - kids do like to take the head of the light off which exposes the lamp.If the lamp breaks, then it could be dangerous to them.)Finally, the spare bulb in the tail piece is awesome, very handy. When I replace the bulb (which is needed sometimes) I always make sure there is a good spare in the tail piece.I could go on and on.If you're looking for a cool gift, or need some extra light, buy a few of them. They are the best. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Great if it doesn't leak
We set this bed up when traveling. It was comfortable to begin with. Three times during the first night we needed to fill it up with air. The company was of no help as their warrenty is very limited and we waited a few months to use it because we were finishing our home.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT NIGHT'S SLEEP!
Inflates quickly!Make sure there's an extra amount of air to compensate for stretching.Sleep like a dream!Comfort, but it moves your partner if you have to get up at night.I sleep well, but wake up on a flat bed lately.(No big deal, it's absolutely great for small apartments!)It folds up easily, but not putting it into the storage bag is best.It fits, but with effort that most women will find very difficult.

I would rate it a 9+.An excellent deal!

5-0 out of 5 stars Your lodge will outlive you
The effectiveness of this dutch oven lies in its design which served chuck wagons a century ago and campers today!Cast Iron is ALWAYS a good value for the money and it's indestructable (I'm still using my mother's Lodge skillet that she got for a wedding gift in 1954). This dutch oven, designed specifically for the camp or fireplace cook, goes from the fire to the table with ease. It stews and bakes beautifully - get a dutch oven cookbook and learn how to make campfire biscuits as well as those stews and chilis! Also makes a fabulous wedding, shower, or housewarming gift. Forget expensive wedding registries - buy the bride a lodge dutch oven and skillet. She'll hand them down to the next generation. Every camper can use this and so can every backyard griller. Highly recommend!

5-0 out of 5 stars I've got a bun in mine!
At first glance, it would be easy to be critical of this marvellous 6-Quart Camp Dutch Oven. There's no thermostat, no door, no shelves, no connectors for hooking up to the gas main, no friendly tolerance of drunken British stag parties, no digitised mincing electronic voice telling you your meat is good and juicy, and even pre-school kids know that 4 quarts make a whole, not 6 as advertised. That's at first glance, though. A closer inspection reveals the meticulous detail and craftmanship that has gone into shaping this wonderful kitchen must-have. From the faux-ceramic egg-glaze wash, to the bakelite-effect lid handle, this beauty oozes quality.
An excellent addition to any household.

    Amazon.com Review

No more squinting at a column of mercury to learn whether it'sa jacket day or a shorts day. This two-unit, remote thermometeraccurately displays the indoor temperature (inside a house symbol), aswell as the outdoor temperature in larger digital numbers. Simply placethe remote sensor unit outside, whether on a porch table or mounted onthe side of the house, and keep the main receiver unit on a desk orwall. Or, place the sensor in the baby's room or wine cellar, whereevery degree counts. A 32-yard (30-meter) transmission range ispossible between the two units, and the sensor sends data to thereceiver every 30 seconds. Operating at a transmission frequency of 433MHz, the thermometer is usable in many countries overseas. The displayshows temperatures to a tenth of a degree, in either Fahrenheit orCelsius. Three channels let the main unit support up to three sensors. Each unit requires two AA batteries for operation (not included). Theindoor unit measures 3-1/4 by 2-7/8 by 1-1/4 inches, and the outdoorsensor measures 4 by 2-3/4 by 7/8 inches. This thermometer is coveredby a 90-day warranty against defects. --Ann Bieri ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Very Inaccurate at low temperatures
The design and idea of this is great. However, even though I remember reading that it is accurate to the low twenties I have never seen it go below 37 degrees. Right now it is Jan. 3, I am looking out the window and there is frost on the ground. The radio announced it is 27 degrees out. Two other thermometers here read below thirty. However, the OregonScientific thermometer reads 37 degrees! Also, the indoor reading in the bottom right corner reads 2+ degrees higher than two other thermometers. I would return this, but I bought it last spring and it is too late.

3-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product ... Last Year
This thermometer belongs to an older line of offerings from Oregon Scientific. The new models are out.One problem is that the sensor from this thermometer will not talk to the newer main units. So unless you plan to buy 3 these older units right now, you may have problem getting sensors for all three channels used by this thermometer.

As for the quality of Scientific Oregon thermometers, they are great.I have 3 units, 2 from their older line and one from their new line. They are all very accurate, the readings from my 3 sensors and 3 main units varies by no more then 0.7 degree F.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great item at a great price
I bought the first of these several years ago, putting the remote sender out on my screened porch and the receiver in the kitchen.I like that the outside temperature is displayed in large, easy to read digits and that the inside temp is displayed at the same time - no need to push a button or wait for an alternating display. A bonus is the max/min memory, something many similarly-priced models omit.

After 4-5 years, the sender seemed to mysteriously quit.Changing batteries, reset, etc. did no good. But I still thought so much of the model that I bought a second one from Amazon. So now I have two receivers and one sender - the second receiver I put in the bedroom so I can see what the outside temp is like in the morning.

Others have commented on the freeze warning that goes off when the outside temp falls to 35 or so.This IS mentioned in the instructions, but the type is tiny and hard to read.If you don't want this feature, select radio channel 2 or 3.Don't forget to push the reset switch after changing batteries.

I find that a set of good alkaline batteries lasts a year or more in both sender and receiver.

The only reason I give this four stars instead of five is the failure of the sender, but it endured several sub-freezing winters so I suppose I shouldn't complain too much. The sender does have a gasket on the battery cover to prevent moisture entering, but I would avoid placing it where it is directly exposed to precipitation.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice Unit and Well Made
I bought two sets so that I could have a remote in the basement wine cellar (remote #1) and one outside (remote #2). Both indoor displays are able to "read" from both remotes so I now can monitor the temps in my basement and outside from either the bedroom (display #1) or the office (display #2).

Every so often I'll lose the outside signal in the office but that's because the distance is probably reaching the 100' max -- not to mention that there's an entire house in the way -- but the signal returns after a while. The cellar remote signal has been stable from day one.

I can't really tell if the temps are accurate to the tenth degree but when I set the display units side by side and give them time to settle down they read only one or two tenths different. Not enough error for me to care since I wouldn't notice a tenth of a degree difference anyway.

The units are well made and the bracket for the remote is a nice touch. One thing that I don't like are the extremely tiny screws that are used for the battery cover. Using larger and sturdier screws or a sliding cover would be a major improvement on an already good product.

Fun and entertaining gadgets for not much money -- man, can it get any better than this?

5-0 out of 5 stars Fine System, displayed range is for warmer climates.
When the Oregon Scientific Cable-Free Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer model MTR101 came up in my Gold Box offer, I checked out the specifications on Oregon Scientific's web page. This is what I found:

Displayed range: 14.2 degrees Fahrenheit to 158 degrees Fahrenheit (-9.9 degrees Celsius to 70 degrees Celsius)

I trust Oregon Scientific's quality as I have used their products in the past. However, this particular unit would not be much use to me because I live far enough North that it can get down to 20 degrees below zero Fahrenheit.14 degrees Fahrenheit is a heat wave around here, especially after the cold, cold winter that we've had this year.Anyway, this is a perfectly fine and extremely well-priced unit for warmer parts of the world. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good emergency light
First thing is to not expect this flashlight to replace a regular battery-powered light (especially something like a Maglight).

With about two minutes of vigerous shaking I get about 2 minutes of bright light (but still nothing like a Maglight), 10-15 minutes of ok light (enough to read by or get around a room), and then the rest is not so useful. I've read other reviews that say it improves with use. I've gone through about five charge/discharge cycles so far.

The shaking seems to take far more effort than the cranking I've used on other generator lights but I suppose it may prove more durable and it is water proof which is nice for changing a tire in the rain.

It is great for the car or to have around the house as a light that will always work but so far it doesn't seem useful as a replacement for a regular flashlight. ... Read more
