Perfect for a Fishfry
We have this fryer and like it very much. We always fry outside so there is no mess and smell anyway. We use the burner on our grill or the base for our turkey fryer with this.

Its the perfect size for frying fish, hushpuppies, fries and onion rings. Makes a good batch without having to fill with so much oil. Our thermometer works just fine and clips on the pot too. We do usually use it without the basket though and just scoop out as food is done.

Lodge is our favorite brand in cast iron. Cast iron is so durable, food doesn't stick to it and most important for us - it puts a little iron in the food, not aluminum like so many products.

My wife hates it when i cook with this thing...
Always a greasy stove top mess to clean up after using this thing, even with a splatter screen... it's not really big enough to fry a big batch either... it comes with a nice thermometer but it's clip doesn't fit the edge of the pot.. it seems to fit best in the hole in the small open handle opposite the big handle.. Step 3: Raise Ends of Tent

possible conditions you think you'll face. For instance, if you're a summer car camper in a region where weather is predictable, an inexpensive family or all purpose tent will likely do the trick--especially if a vehicle is nearby and you can make a mad dash for safety when bad weather swoops in! If you're a backpacker, alpine climber or bike explorer, or if you like to car camp in all seasons, you'll want to take something designed to handle more adversity.

Three- and Four-Season Tents
For summer, early fall and late spring outings, choose a three-season tent. At minimum, a quality three season tent will have lightweight aluminum poles, a reinforced floor, durable stitching, and a quality rain-fly. Some three-season tents offer more open-air netting and are more specifically designed for summer backpacking and other activities. Many premium tents will feature pre-sealed, taped seams and a silicone-impregnated rain-fly for enhanced waterproofness.

For winter camping or alpine travel, go with a four season model.

Step 4: Attach Rainfly

Because they typically feature more durable fabric coatings, as well as more poles, four-season tents are designed to handle heavy snowfall and high winds without collapsing. Of course, four-season tents exact a weight penalty of about 10 to 20 percent in trade for their strength and durability. They also tend to be more expensive.

Domes, Tunnels and Sacks
Tents are broadly categorized into two types, freestanding, which can stand up on their own, and those that must be staked down in order to stand upright. Freestanding tents often incorporate a dome-shaped design, and most four-season tents are constructed this way because a dome leaves no flat spots on the outer surface where snow can collect. Domes are also inherently stronger than any other design. Meanwhile, many three-season models employ a modified dome configuration called a tunnel. These are still freestanding, but they require fewer poles than a dome, use less fabric, and typically have a rectangular floor-plan that offers less storage space than a dome configuration. Many one and two-person tents are not freestanding, but they make up for it by being more lightweight. Because they use fewer poles, they can also be quicker to set up than a dome.

Size Matters
Ask yourself how many people you'd like to fit in your fabric hotel now and in the future. For soloists and minimalists, check out one-person tents. If you're a mega-minimalist, or if you have your eye on doing some big wall climbs, a waterproof-breathable bivy sack is the ticket. Some bivy sacks feature poles and stake points to give you a little more breathing room. Also, if you don't need bug protection and you want to save weight, check out open-air shelters.

Families who plan on car camping in good weather can choose from a wide range of jumbo-sized tents that will accommodate all your little ones with room to spare. A wide range of capacities is also available for three- and four-season backpacking and expedition tents. Remember, though, the bigger the tent you buy, the heavier it will be, although it's easy to break up the tent components among several people in your group. World's greatest lantern
I bought the Coleman battery lantern before we went on a camping trip with my 6 year old daughter and her Y-Princess tribe. I liked the idea of a battery-powered lantern, as opposed to a propane or liquid fuel lantern, around little kids.

It turns out that the Coleman battery lantern is the best lantern I've ever used. Most importantly, it throws a ton of bright white light - this is "hang the lantern on a tree branch and have enough light to pitch the tent, build the fire, cook dinner, etc" kind of light. In addition, the Coleman battery lantern lasts a lot longer than I expected on a set of batteries, turns right on, is easy to find in the dark (when you leave the night light feature on), is easy to carry... I could go on and on.

Sure, 8 D cell batteries are expensive, but that's the only down side I can see. The benefits mentioned above, plus the huge benefit of safety around the kids, more than makes up for the additional expense, at least in my book. ... Read more

Amazing.

shakey start but well worth the wait.
Okay, the discs that came with the box delivered would not install.Getting a hold of Tech Support required scouting for the 416 number in Canada and leaving a voice mail message - not the best first impression.I did receive a return call about 4 hours later from Claire at Starry Night Tech Support.She said this was a known manufacturing problem affecting a small batch of product that went out, and she promised to send me a replacement set once I provided proof of purchase (a copy of Amazon's confirmation e-mail sufficed).

Now that I have the program installed, I am quite pleased.It's graphics are stunning especially compared to my old DOS version of Skyglobe.

The Local View, which I use most frequently, has options to turn on or off Daylight, Local Horizon, Local and Distant Light Pollution.Of these, the 1st 2 provide dramatic differences in the realistic view of the sky. The latter two don't really impress.

Solar System objects are selectable too - Asteroids, Comets, Meteor showers, Planets and Satellites can all be turned on or off as are their labels.

Constellation Options include Auto Identify, Boundaries, Illustrations (artsy, but superfluous in my view), Labels and Stick Figures. The last of these offers five flavours, so most of you can find constellation stick figures to suit your taste.

I found the Astronomical View a tad complex while the Asterisms were a tad over simplified compared to what I grew up with (again - Skyglobe).Also available are Oriental Moon Stations, Reyís and Zodiac.

Deep Spave Objects can be selected (and labeled).Drill deeper into space and you will see nice images of distant galaxies etc.

The printouts are also fairly nice.Don't expect a mirror image of the realistic view as displayed on the monitor.You get a nice star chart with what ever labels you selected in your Options.

A really fun feature is the "Spaceship" option if you wish to take a little cruise around the local solar system, or zip off to distant galaxies. I would like to be able to turn off the onscreen targeting window (for lack of better term or inclination to look the term up).But a nice feature none the less.

I don't use a telescope, so I can't comment on features geared towards amateur astronomers, but as a night sky enthusiast, I'm more that satisfied with Starry Night.

Hose and heater do not work

In December 2004 I purchased aMr Heater MH18B Portable Heater
and this hose to connect to a propane storage conatainer.

The hose inserts into the tank and the heater smoothly. But no
propane flows from the tank to the heater. I have been unable
to get even the pilot flame to light ... no gas flow through
to the heating element

Excellent add on for Mr. Heater
I bought two of these hoses to attach to two 20lb propane tanks.Attaching to 20lb propane tanks is a huge savings over using the individual 1 quart propane cyclinders.Hoses work very well.The only thing to remember when attaching the hose to 20lb propane tanks is that the couplings are left hand threaded (i.e. you must turn to the left to tighten).

Almost a required upgrade
I bought this hose because I wanted to maximize the safety, usefulness and economy of the propane Portable Buddy heater by Mr Heater. You can't go wrong buying this hose!

1. It allows the use of a larger LP tank (I have a 20 lb cylinder). I am certain the savings from buying LP fuel in bulk will pay for the hose.

2. You can locate the bulk tank a good distance away from the lit heater. I use the heater primarily in my garage, and with the hose I can put the heater up on a shelf or on the workbench, off the floor, and still have the bulk tank in a convenient and safe spot.

3. The hose can be used with any propane appliance that uses disposable propane cylinders.

Here's an essential safety tip when using this hose: be sure to shut/close the valve on the bulk tank BEFORE you remove the hose from the tank. It's possible to remove the hose end from the bulk tank without closing the tank valve and you will quickly find out that liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is another name for stinky, oily mess when it comes squirting out of the valve as I've done.

Definately a needed add on..
If you are buying the Mr. Buddy Heater, this hose (or the 5' model) are definately needed. By using the larger (20lb or bigger) tanks you have many more hours of operation without having to change the disposable tanks. This hose will also allow you to use bulk tanks with any propane appliance that accepts the disposable tanks (stoves, lantern, etc.). ... Read more

Soft, strong and light!
We purchased two of the Byer of Maine Blue Traveller Hammocks a couple of years ago for both daypacking and overnight trekking trips.They are very comfy, no static, very strong, very light -- a snap to set up AND they dry very quickly -- which in Colorado is a real bonus with our afternoon summer showers.What more could you want in lounging comfort!Our young teen sons gave them both a real workout this weekend and they held up without showing any wear or tear.So now we've bought two more -- because next time around, we'd like everyone to have their own ; - ) ...
