5-0 out of 5 stars Nikon Travelite: Excellent Value
I am very impressed with the Travelite series. These small binoculars are great for kids and travel. These are the only binoculars (for the price) to have if you where glasses. Since I stopped taking off my glasses every time I wanted to see through binoculars I use my binoculars 10 times more often. I have purchased a second set of these and found the 10X a little to much magnification and like the 8x better. For kids the 8x is much easier for them to find targets quickly especially when birding. I have tried the zoom models in the store and the images are not a sharp as the standard models. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Not quite the classic everybody makes it out to be.
Yeah, yeah.Everybody buys these Mini Maglites.Everybody says they're the benchmark, but I disagree, having owned one a number of years and having had time to document it's failings. For one thing, mine simply quit working recently, and when I visited the Maglite website, I learned that returning it under the warranty would cost more in shipping than it would cost to buy a new flashlight. How irritating. My solution was to toss the thing in the trash, and what a pity, as the quality of construction is quite good, notwithstanding the broken switch. But that brings me to my second point: the switch. This is the twist-on/off kind.Do you tend to carry a flashlight in your pack?In your pocket? Then avoid this model. The jostling that occurs during routine movement tend to turn the light on, a bit of a hassle when you're in the middle of nowhere only to find your light has turned itself on and exhausted the batteries. Now if only the manufacturer would adopt the same kind of push-button switch as on the larger models, and perhaps change the bulb to LEDs, then this model would be perfect rather than merely dated.A better bet is to pick up one or two cheap plastic Rayovacs at the hardware or discount store--better switch, comparable durability.

5-0 out of 5 stars When buying a flashlight, check out the Mini Mag first!
I have had a 2AA cell Mini Maglite for several years now. Through this time, I have dropped it a lot, but each time, the only damage is scratches. It is so durable that you can just throw it on the ground purposely and it will not be obliterated! The holster is a nice addition so that you can have easy acces when you are in a tight situation.
The candle feature is very useful, especially for camping (or night reading). Also, it is water proof! I never have to worry while using it in the rain.
Overall, this product is very useful. With its size and capabilities, it prooves worthy to be owned by anyone, no matter what there job is. Note: Another good Mag product is the 4D cell light.

5-0 out of 5 stars Universal Light
The first one I had was black, just like Model-T. Being dark and inside my dark overalls pocket, I forgot about it until it fell. It fell couple more times since. It is still working. It is a good size to go inside the tool box permanently. The size is also small enough to go inside where only your hand can reach. Sometimes in my line of work in seismic oil exploration I need to do come cabling, the Mini helps to get the connection right.

Bought a few more Mag lights since the first one, seeing as it is tough and rain proof. But when I travel it is the Mini that comes along instead of the Mag Solitaire because the AA size batteries is the most universally available battery you can find in most countries.

Torch (flashlight to you guys in US) is like penknives, tend to need it in an emergency. So one lives with the Leatherman, one in the car glove box, the old one still in the tool box.

Yeah, I have held the torch in my lips too in the past but now recommend a headband by Nite Ize to turn it into a headlamp. Another item worth considering if you go hiking a lot is the Nite Ize "Pock-its". This is a holster for Mini Mag Light and Leatherman, spare batteries.

5-0 out of 5 stars Last forever, so far
This very portable flashlight is heavy and sturdy. It has been dropped several times, with no damage to the glass. The illumination is also quite strong for the size of the flashlight, and will last for several weeks of use without a battery change. This is easily the most durable flashlight of its kind; you are likely to lose it before you damage it.

5-0 out of 5 stars SUPERB LITTLE WONDER
IT'S AN AMAZING FLASHLIGHT FOR THE SIZE. IT HAS THE LITE INTENSITY OF A ORDINARY TWIN D-CELL FASHLIGHT AND WILL LAST EVEN LONGER. THE ABILITY TO ADJUST THE BEAM IS FANTASTIC AND IT'S SMALL SIZE MEANS I CAN CARRY IT WITH ME CONSTANTLY. HIGH QUALITY AND VALUE FOR THE BUCK ARE IT'S BEST POINTS. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Sandal, but I wish it was a little less $$$
I've owned a pair of these for about a year now.I bought them while on vacation with my family. At first I got them just for thelooks.Basically a hybrid between a tennis shoe and a sandal the Newport H2's provide a lot of comfort in the soles. The "webbing" on the uppers also keeps your foot from sliding around. The simple pull strap tightens/loosens the shoe quickly so that you can get them on or off fast. The only two complaints, although minor, would be that just like with any other shoe, your feet can sweat a bit sometimes and because the toes are closed in, small pebbles and other materials sometimes get caught with your toes.Told ya, minor problems! Other than that they are a great shoe.I was wearing them the other day while kayaking in a lake.I never took them off even while in the water.I'm taking them to the beach in another couple of days.My sister bought another shoe by Keen and I know that she wears them all the time.My father wanted a pair to but didn't buy them at the time and then later regretted it.Buy a pair, you'll see what I mean! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Indispensible for light work
Okay, so an AA powered torch is not going to illuminate a room, but these mini Mag List torches are incredibly handy to have around all the same. I have a black version for my office and a silver version in my car. What makes them so useful is that they're very reliable and very simple to use. My black torch gets a frequent workout when I'm hunting around under the desk unplugging wires, or when I've opened a computer case and need to see inside it. I've only used the silver one a few times, but it's reassuring to keep in the glove box of the car in case I get a flat tyre.

I was amazed by the "candle mode" that someone mentioned. I was playing around with my torch while writing this review and I'd never seen that feature before! It's extremely handy to know and just reinforces my good impressions of this device.

4-0 out of 5 stars Inexpensive light, inexpensive batteries, good light... but
there are better lights out there.Of course they cost more money.I have 5 or 6 of these floating around between cars, night stand, wifes night stand etc. They work great, last a long time, and if something happens to them (battery leaks, run over with tank etc) you just chuck it and buy a new one.

That said, when you are looking for a flashlight that you have to rely on and you don't want to carry 3 or 4 with you, I'd look to an LED flashlight.LEDs don't burn out very fast, runtime on batteries is WAY longer. My personal favorite is the Inova x5.5 LEDs, 20 hour runtime on one set of batteries, waterproof, and brighter than a mini mag by far.It just costs 3-4 times as much, which is why I have one of them instead of 4.

3-0 out of 5 stars "Mini Mag a power 'shack', not a powerhouse"
In the last decade, people have been rooting for this small flashlight that was always considered to be cool, with it's aircraft aluminum 'armour', and bright beam. This thing was once considered to be more popular than a lightsaber.

These qualities stand to this day and should be considered should you buy this as a gift or lighting tool for someone. It's strong reaching beam fires a fair distance in spot mode, and a moderately effective flood mode lights up a room quite nicely.

Now, with these kudos, there are some things to keep in mind when buying this light:

Unless you get silver/puter or light blue, this black knight can be easily lost in the dark if you don't have it on. Also, the fact that it's a heavy duty metal doesn't help it's chances from a fairly tall fall. This thing is not shock absorbent. Maybe it's casing is, but it's innards aren't. And to top it all off, this flashlight is more thirsty for batteries than a 5 litre gas guzzling Mustang. After a good half hour, it dims a litte, but a little too soon.

So, what do I recommend above the Mini Mag? Two great recommendations: the Energizer Double Barrel 'xenon' flashlight, with it's great looks, and better battery life. The xenon bulb is also brighter than the Mag's 'T-Bulb'. Another great light is the Rayovac AA Industrial flashlight. Now, this flashlight does not have the same distance reach as the Mini Mag (in spot mode) since this light is built with a 'wide spot', that acts like a super (and I mean super for an AA light) mini spot light, and maybe not at long distances, but at least for lighting up.....the WOODS! I find this to be the best light for when you're lost in the woods. If you are one of those people who walk a lot at night, especially near any forests and wooded areas, then the Rayovac AA Industrial light is the one-if you aren't interested in an L.E.D lights, which should be your first choice. You'd probably think that a Rayovac AA flashlight wouldn't be powerful enough for to light up the thick of the woods in the night and twenty feet in front of you...well, guess again!! You'd better get one and try it out. It's output is nearly as bright as a 2D Maglite in flood mode. Really! I carry it everywhere with me (knapsack). And mega shock resistant!!

So, hats off to Mag for a great run, and for making a cool and powerful light with a few self defeating faults.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simple, tough, American- made and versatile
These are perfect for the car or toolbox; small, reliable, and rugged. The two-pin bulb can also be replaced with a very small LED (off-the-shelf, not a MAG product obviously) for easily reading azimuth scales on your backyard telescope while stargazing.

1-0 out of 5 stars This long-time customer was dissed when it came to warranty
3 weeks ago, I contacted Maglite for a replacement switch for my 4-D flashlight, in which the switch failed. The customer service rep asked me for my serial number, which I gave her and she assured me that I could get a replacement switch.I gave her my name and address and she said that a shipment had just gone out, and it would be in the next shipment. That was fine with me.Days turned into weeks.Still no part.More days went by.STILL no part in the mail.

Hmmmm. Is this how long time customers are treated?I previous owned a variety of their flashlights, from an AAA Solitaire to a 5-D flashlight, at least 5 in total. My dad has purchased in the neighborhood of 15 or more himself, starting in about '86 when someone else turned him onto Maglites.

Customer support is as important to me as the product itself.Has customer support become a casualty of a tough economy?

This long-time customer will have to look at alternatives the next time he's buying a flashlight. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great all-around flashlight
I was looking for a multi-purpose flashlight to be used inside & around the house and found it in this twin-task.The two-stage LEDs are powerful enough for most needs and allow long battery life; the xenon bulb will take care of almost anything else when short- to mid-range illumination is needed.

The light is sturdy, well built and offers a good grip size, I have no worries when my kids want to play with it.It has gaskets which provide water resistance if dropped in water by mistake.Don't go swimming though !

I find one downside to be the switch, it is quite small and needs some force to push, it must also be cycled through all modes to turn off the flashlight (3-LED / 6-LED / XENON / OFF) which is common anyway in this type of light.

I power the light with three rechargeable 2000mAh NiMH AA batteries & AA-to-C adapters which gives great battery life and is not as heavy as using C batteries.Obviously I wouldn't do that if the flashlight was a safety light kept in storage as the NiMH batteries would run dry even when not used.

This is a great do-it-all flashlight at a very attractive price point and I will surely look for more Streamlight products in the future.I would buy again as a starter flashlight and then look at smaller all-LED models and/or Luxeon models.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good flashlite for camping.
This flashlite is good for camping/hunting. The LED lites provide enough lite to light a path and the other bulb is perfect for when you need more light. I am an Full-Time EMT-Intermediate for a rural EMS system. I keep a Surefire 6-P on my belt and the Steamlite in my personal bag as a back up for cave rescue/ ect.

5-0 out of 5 stars Work with this. You'll love it.
This is my first flashlight. The reason i chose this is because it has a combination of both LED n Xenon, for close n far view respectively. I use it for my work in the aviation industry. Just by the 6 LEDs alone enable me to carry out my inspections that is about 20feet away. Needless to say about the Xenon bulb. ;)
Two cons about this flashlight are it is a little heavy as it hold 3 C-size batts and the focus beam does not seem to achieve the standard that i want.
Overall, this is great stuff!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Real Tactical Flashlight
This is a true tactical flashlight which gives you three settings depending on your requirement. At the lowest setting this light is the most powerful flashlight I've owned. The smaller, low battery drain bulbs(3 or 6 burn setting) shoot powerful "blue" light like a science fiction laser ray gun.I use mine to walk my dog in evening. This torch really gets people' attention.Due to it's heavy duty construction it's a bit on the heavy side. But then this thing is sturdy enough to double as a small baton.

5-0 out of 5 stars Two for the price of one.
This is a great flashlight. I have two other LED flashlights and they are good but they don't fit the bill when you need a BRIGHT light. With this I have both, the LEDs are bright and will give you what you need 90% of the time, But when you need more you just turn on the Xenon and you have a very bright light. I also like the strong metal case, it has the feel of a Mag light. If you have been thinking about getting a LED flashlight this is the one to get. (they make other sizes you might like for yourself) ... Read more

About Columbia Sportswear
Founded in 1938, Columbia Sportswear Company has grown from a small family-owned hat distributor to one of the world's largest outerwear brands and the leading seller of skiwear in the United States. Columbia's extensive product line includes a wide variety of outerwear, sportswear, rugged footwear and accessories. Columbia specializes in developing innovative products that are functional yet stylish and offer great value. Eighty-year-old matriarch Gert Boyle, Chairman of the Board, and her son, Tim Boyle, President and CEO, lead the company. Columbia's history starts with Gert's parents, Paul and Marie Lamfrom, when they fled Germany in 1937. They bought a small hat distributorship in Portland, Oregon, and named it Columbia Hat Company, after the river bordering the city. Soon frustrated by poor deliveries from suppliers, the Lamfroms decided to start manufacturing products themselves. In 1948, Gert married college sweetheart Neal Boyle, who joined the family business and later took the helm of the growing company. When Neal suddenly died of a heart attack in 1970, Gert enlisted help from Tim, then a college senior. After that it wasn't long before business really started to take off. Columbia was one of the first companies to make jackets from waterproof/breathable fabric. They introduced the breakthrough technology called the Columbia Interchange System, in which a shell and liner combine for multiple wearing options. In the early 1980s, then 60 year-old Gert began her role as "Mother Boyle" in Columbia's successful and popular advertising campaign. In 1998 the company went public, and moved into a new era as a world leader in the active outdoor apparel industry. Today, Columbia Sportswear employs more than 1,800 people around the world and distributes and sells products in more than 50 countries and to more than 12,000 retailers internationally.

5-0 out of 5 stars Prerequisite for Being Alive
I couldn't imagine my life without this flashlight (and a Leatherman). When I work as an occasional camera assistant on commercials and films, the maglite is the perfect size for checking the gate, cleaning equipment, or even walking around in dark forests looking for the leading actress.

I will take some paper tape and wrap it around the tail end of the barrel providing a soft grip that my teeth can sink into. All too often I'll be in an awkward position, reach back with my right hand to the holster, whip out the torch, twist it on, and stick it into my mouth in one smooth motion.

Each torch comes with its own replacement bulb, conveniently "hidden" in the tail spring. It's so well insulated that dropping the maglite onto hard rock while running won't break the spare (though the current bulb may not fare quite so well).

There are also professional (and online do-it-yourself) conversions to replace the bulb with a gallium-based LED bulb, the kind that never burn out, are thrice as bright, and use half the battery power. You can use the standard white color, or red or dark green LEDs for "night-vision."I haven't done this yet myself, although there's no fear of making a mistake.I own a silver, blue, red, forest green, and dark blue AA lite, a mini-Mag AAA for the house/car keys, and a D-cell large maglite for checking around the house, or keeping in the car on long trips.

You can twist off the head, exposing the bulb entirely while it's "burning."This is called candle-mode.By hanging the light from the tail loopholder, you can have an omni-directional light that's bright enough to put away equipment under.Several of these strung about brightens the room even more so.If you're into focus pulling, I use this for critical focusing, should the need arise.Have someone hold the torch in candle-mode by the subject, and you can focus on the filament for a precise setting.

These things are heavy duty and aren't made of joke materials like plastic and rubber. The Mag is the way to go.

5-0 out of 5 stars Camper's delight!
This is a very fine flashlight. It puts out a surprising amount of light for its size. The beam is adjustable from wide and diffuse to narrow and focused. You can also remove the lens and it becomes omnidirectional, perfect when you're in a tent. The holster keeps it within reach at alltimes, instead of feeling around on the ground in the dark for it. I use ita lot more than my larger maglight for just this reason. The batteries lasta lot longer than in other brands of small flashlights, and you getconsiderably more light as well. A must own for any outdoors fan, and abargain as well. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars waste of money
This is a terrible product:1.The binoculars are very heavy and awkward to use.2.The pictures are extremely poor.3. The company offers poor service and packaged instructions are very brief and insufficient.WA

1-0 out of 5 stars 1.3MP version
I bought the Meade CaptureView 8X42 1.3MP Digital Camera Binocular. The first one had software / hardware that hung up after 3 pictures, the second one had so many pixels missing from the screen it was unreadable, the third one wouldnt turn on and the black side flashing fell off on removal from the box.
A truely tatty product

4-0 out of 5 stars Pleasantly Surprised
After reading some mixed reviews I was skeptical, but I wanted the product and no other had as many features. Besides, I figure you get what you pay for and this was the most expensive of the bino/cameras.

The bad news first: The item feels somewhat flimsy despite its 11/2 pounds. It's made of plastic; you wouldn't want to drop it. The flip-up LCD screen appears vulnerable on its lightweight hinged base. This base rubs on an internal cable, which may wear, causing future problems. The battery cover fits so loosely I have to hold it in place with a rubber band or the camera turns off.

The good news: Most of the plastic (except the battery cover) is heavy duty. The LCD screen can be left down most of the time so it's out of harm's way.You can't see it in bright light anyway and it's only needed for the initial setup and to view pictures.Power is readily maintained with the application ofa rubber band to hold the battery cover in place. The binoculars are great. The 2MP images are excellent to my non-professional eye and accurately duplicate the view seen through the binoculars.Resolution is even sufficient for further magnification with photo software. The menu and controls are user friendly. One of the best features is the internal
flash menory, which retains images even if the batteries fail, and the SD slot for expandability.Plug n' play means no potentially faulty external drivers. The device is recognized as a hard drive and images can be opened in any photo app..

I'm satisfied. It's a keeper!

3-0 out of 5 stars It is okay.
I just got my meade binoculars/digital camera. I believe the binoculars are excellent. The camera part can use some work, but for a product in its infancy, its kind of fun.I am still testing the camera part, but I do believe the price is a little high. The casing is plastic, but it appears to be pretty sturdy. It is also a bit heavier than my celestron binocular/digital camera (with no LCD).Overall, for a little fun and something new it is okay. DEFINITELY, NEEDS TRIPOD CAPABILITY, WHICH THIS ITEM DOES NOT HAVE.IF YOU ARE VERY SERIOUS ABOUT GETTING AN ITEM SUCH AS THIS AND YOU REALLY NEED IT FOR SERIOUS PIX TAKING I WOULD NOT BUY THIS ITEM UNTIL THE TECHNOLOGY IMPROVES, BUT IF YOU WANT IT FOR FUN AND THE PRICE GOES DOWN A BIT, THEN GO FOR IT.I AM KEEPING MINE. I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO ADVANCEMENT IN THIS FIELD.

2-0 out of 5 stars not what I thought
I have only used these twice for a total of about 40 pictures. I am sure once I use them more the quality will improve. I was disappointed when I realized that what you see in the binocular is NOT what the picture will be. To frame the picture you must use the LCD screen, which is impossible to see in sunlight. I suggest getting either a good digital camera with high zoom or good binoculars not a combination, until this tecnology improves. The binoculars are very good by themselves. The camera is difficult to use. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Watch-out for similar products (non-Maglite)
MAGLITE model#LM2A001 2-Cell AA is an excellent match for your mini Maglite Flashlight. Watch out for products claiming to work such as Rayovac 2-T1AAA they are suppose to be compatible with both the double A and triple A configuration. Guesse what... they burn out quickly!
Wal-Mart list price is $1.57 as of 1/21/05. You get two in a pack. Part # 107-000-396.

5-0 out of 5 stars Durable, Bright Little Bulbs
I put one of these in my old MiniMag after the original bulb burned out.I do believe these are a little "hotter" than the one that was in the flashlight when I bought it ten years ago.I have fumbled the flashligh several times while it was on and the fall did not break the filament. These will brighten up your little light; for you life, consult the "personal development" book section! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars 4 stars not 5 only because all 7 slots wont go over 1 burner
'Scuse me, but may I invite myself into your HOME?
Yes, y'all down South, you who know how to hook it up but GOOOD.
Am a SWM whose stomach is grrrowling to munch on ALL of your
home-made cornbread, as long as it has no sugar, wheat or bicarb.
Fact, would you please post walking directions to your front
stoop from the nearest Greyhound depot? I'll fly Greyhound first
thing once I cash out my Chase bank account and junk my things.
All you gotta do is let me sleep on the floor (forever) and keep
your sisters and daughters out of harm's way. I'll be coming over
by daylight, so you'll have time to fix me a batch the same day.
My skills? I can watch TV, change channels, flush the toilet, eat
all day and night, and even mosey on over to the general store to
lug back a couple of Guinness stout pints to help wash down some
more of your made-from-scratch cornmeal sticks and wedges. We'll
take turns keeping the hungry neighbors from getting too friendly
(just don't sic the dogs on ME when I'm thumbing my way over now)

BTW, suggest that you folks who'd like to break the monotony from
eating cornbread STICKS invest in Amazon's ASIN: B00004S9I8 (AKA
Lodge Original Finish Cast Iron Eight-Section Cornbread Skillet).

4-0 out of 5 stars Seasoned, this makes pretty cornsticks for your meals
Frankly, when I am lazy, I whip up a batch of cornbread (yeah, yellow cornmeal, so sue me you Southerners, and I even use those cheap mixes when really pressed for time.) And I pour it into any handy square or round cake pan and cut it up for meals.

But...let's say you are serving guests and want some cornsticks to go with that chili. If you season this pan according to directions, and even throw out the first batch of sticks, (give them to the dog, he won't mind)you will eventually get a pan that lets you make lovely, brown, tasty cornsticks that look very nice served with a simple meal. Don't skimp on the oil or melted butter in the batter, and watch the sugar--it causes them to brown too fast if you overdo it.

Set these out in a nice basket and you won't feel so bad about serving chili from a can or the soup you threw together in a panic to get that hot meal on the table. Whew!

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad start!
I'm no newcomer to castiron cookware & should've used common sense when it came time to season the cornstick pan.Instead, I followed directions & slapped on the Crisco.Big mistake! It didn't seem to 'soak in,' so I rubbed more, heated more.Bottom line is that the Crisco simply caked on, turned dark & I'll skip the gory details of getting it off. With this introduction, I can hardly wait to try cooking in it!Other castiron instructions say to use oil, heat & leave overnight in the oven.Future buyers should go directly to Plan B.

1-0 out of 5 stars Lodge Cast Iron Cornstick Pan
I don't like my pan.I oiled it like the instructions say to do and it left a bad flavor behind. Now we can taste it everytime we use it.I have had problems with the cornbread sticking even though I grease the pan.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great cornbread pan
I have always liked Lodge cast iron pans and this one is no exeption. This is a heavy well made pan that with proper care will last for generations.
The key to using a cast iron pan is to properly season it and keep it seasoned. For this pan, I rubbed it with melted Crisco and baked it for an hour at 400, then let it cool slowly in the oven. This should create a beautiful glossy black finish; if not, do it a second time and again whenever the seasoning has worn off. Always hand dry a pan like this, never let it air dry or it will rust.
I have never had a problem with cornbread sticking. I preheat the pan and then pour the batter into it. I use a small ladle for this and leave the pan right on the oven rack. When the cornbread is done you just flip it right out onto a plate. The only drawback I have had is that I usually have to make a few pansful of cornbreads sticks for them to last through dinner. ...
