Wal-Mart Almost Giving Them Away
My local Wal-Mart store in Naples, Florida is selling Midland WR-10 Weather Radios for two bucks ($2.00) each! (The radio originally sold for about 30 bucks at Wal-Mart).

I bought about a dozen of them to pass out to my friends. The radio does EXACTLY what it's intended to do...give weather information and weather alerts, and it also has the AM and FM bands.You can set the radio to be absolutely quiet until it receives a weather alert.

The instructions are very clear and an included pamphlet gives the NOAA weather frequencies for all the major cities in the USA,(which can be easily set at the bottom of the radio). There are a number of other neat features which I won't go into here. So RUN to your local Wal-Mart and see if they still have any left at this absolutely amazing price!

My only problem... The radio is made in China, but then, just about everything in Wal-Mart comes from the Orient!

Iffy Electronics?
I just purchased this radio locally, and I'm going to have to return it. The buttons aren't working. Considering that I've had trouble with another model weather radio from Midland, I wouldn't buy another product made by that company.

Form over function
The Midland WR10 weather radio looks like a good example of industrial design gone bad. The design seems to be based on the company logo - a stylized letter "M". The problem is, assuming you're facing the "front" of the radio, all of the important controls such as the AM/FM radio tuning and volume are on the sides of the radio facing away from the user! I suppose you could operate it by feel, or position the radio backwards, but either way it still seems very awkward. Then again, if you never plan to use the WR10 as an AM/FM radio, it'll probably work just fine.

I saved myself a few dollars and ordered the similarly featured, but conventionally designed Midland 74105XL instead. Not as "pretty" but I'm sure it's identical in performance and a lot easier to use. ... Read more

Pure 100% Garbage
I can't beleive how cheaply this item is constructed. Mine also went back on the same day. DON'T BUY THIS!

Disappointing product
This product is a toy masquerading as an instrument.The compass is inaccurate, seldom getting within 20 degrees of true direction, and is often off by 30 to 35 degrees.The clock does not keep good time either, and is difficult to set.Each time an adjustment is needed, one must get out the instructions that came with it (if you still have them, if not you are the proud owner of a new paper weight).

Qual control
I can not believe the poor craftmanship with which this was constructed. Little thought was given to replacing batteries.
Flimsy casing material.
I returned mine within a day!
This reflect poorly on the name of eddie bauer which i have till this moment held in high esteem.

save your money and get something else
i bought this at target and took it back immediately.first i couldn't get it to turn on, turns out you have to jiggle the batteries a couple times to get them to make good contact (just think about how good this would be to have in a moving car or hiking).finally got it to turn on, and the backlight is so dinky.in the time of indiglo, why does this thing have a tiny green light that doesn't even light up the whole screen?the entire casing is plastic (?) as it's very light and feels like it would shatter very easily (aka, great thing to have when you're lost camping and trip and drop your pack...)they also expect you to have a miniscule screwdriver so you can strip the tiny screw on the back as you're trying to put in the batteries.grrrr.all of these issues made me really wonder exactly how good the compass itself worked...if it had the same low-quality standards, it's not my ideal guide if i'm lost in the woods.

One major problem...

Good for rough distance measuring
This qualifies for classification as one of those Handy-Dandy-Gadgets-For-Geek-Fans-Who-Have-Everything. For those who have use for such a gizmo, it's a nice but not particularly accurate tool.
I got mine as an adjunct to my latest health kick, which includes long walks each day -- measuring distances on a city atlas of my excursions around town.
The device includes a calculator, magnifying glass, and a distance finder. Setup to calculate distances on a map is simple, and the device appears to retain settings until changed -- very helpful if you're using the same map as I do.
The device does all it purports to do, but not flawlessly -- the wheel which you're to run over the map is overly tight in the casing, and thus apt to stick and skip when drawn over the route. Because of this, you'll need to measure a few times to get a decent reading, which won't be completely accurate. Perhaps it'll loosen up with extended use, but I doubt it. As an additional negative, the wheel is toothed -- the pressure you need to exert on the device risks perforating your map, which can be disconcerting when used on a $50 atlas.
If you need a broad idea of distances on maps which have no monetary value, the device is fine for the price. But keep your ruler if you need precision measurements.
