5-0 out of 5 stars Tough watch
My boyfriend had an older model of this watch that he wore for work and play for years. He wore it while fighting forest fires and fishing in the PNW, and it held up great.I bought this watch for him as a Christmas gift, and he loved it.It looks great, is comfotable and was reasonably priced.Hopefully it has the lasting power of his previous one. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Don't dive without it!
I have done more than a 100 dives in the last 3 years and most of them with one kind of dive computer or another. A few weeks ago I stumbled into a weeks diving in Sardinia's caves (that you have to try!) without any gear on me as I was on the motorbike. I borrowed a Suunto Mosquite among other computers and was so impressed that I went out to buy myself a Suunto Stinger which is the same functionality in a nice metallic package. I did decompression dives, nitrox dives, up to three dives a day, and night and cave dives with it. The computer I have with all my dive gear is a Uwatec Air-Z which is a great product, but it is huge on your wrist. The Stinger I wear as a larger sports wristwatch. I can recommend the Suunto Mosquito and Stinger to a novice as well as for an advanced diver as it is really easy to use. It simply guides you through zero time, decompression and safety stops, as well as ascent speed warnings. The green background lighting worked great during night and cave dives. In difference to most other products, you can customize the Suunto computers to your physique with parameters as sex, age and weight. By the way, I can't wait to get back to Sardinia ... ... Snorkel and dive with confidence. This world-known snorkel is absolutely dry. The astounding 12-year Pressure Release Valve Technology features an airway which automatically closes and opens with water contact. As you surface for air, this snorkel does the thinking for you and opens the airway so you can breathe. Come up for air without having to clear a barrel of water. Unbelievable but true, this snorkel can actually be submerged in any position, even upside down. Many snorkels may claim to be dry. If you really want to know the truth, they aren't. This is.Many extra features were added to this snorkel so that you have maximum enjoyment on your next trip to the world aquarium often called the sea. Beginners love the ease with which this snorkel works to reveal the whole new world that is not dry but completely the opposite. At the lower end of the snorkel, a patented 3-D adjustment rotates to prevent jaw fatigue, so you can enjoy the new world much longer. If you're a diver or plan to become one soon, a one-way purge valve on the bottom of the snorkel conveniently helps you clear out any water that enters when you remove your scuba regulator from your mouth and enable your snorkel after a dive. The new easy-to-use snorkel keeper is the handy way to secure the snorkel to your mask. The mouthpiece is made of super-soft high grade silicone. It is replaceable to give you years of longlasting enjoyment. Quality is evident. Today a product so remarkable as this ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Skip This Snorkel
I was surprised at the disparity between the manufacturer's sales pitch above, and the reality of this snorkel's performance. We bought two of these for a Caribbean vacation and we both experienced frequent water leakage into the tube. I accepted this and just frequently blew hard out the purge valve (scaring surrounding fish away), whereas my girlfriend was so frustrated that she frequently pulled up to drain the tube. I should also mention: we have both snorkeled many times before, neither of us dove under water, and there were no waves. I suspect the problem has to do with the purge valve - which appears delicate.I give 2 stars because it sort of works; it's just unpleasant.

I probably shouldn't be surprised though. After receiving it I could tell upon close examination that it wasn't likely to work as well as advertised. What you cannot see in the picture above is that the "astounding 12-year Pressure Release Valve" is merely a simple float-valve design that is less efficient at closing when the tube enters the water at an angle.

The other problem is that the manufacturer (Ocean Master) will not refund your money if the product is unsatisfactory.Obviously they cannot resell it, and do not want to lose any money on the sale. However it seems to me that if you are going to exaggerate and hype the product as "absolutely dry" and "astounding", and it clearly is not, then you in fact bear some responsibility.Just my 2 cents.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the one!
This snorkel is 100% dry, no kidding! We bought 2 of them for a Caribbean trip.Though we ended up snorkeling in high winds and waves, we never got even a drop of water down the tube.

Highly recommended. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good but some problems
The SeaLife ReefMaster RC takes OK pictures but they came out rather blurry and grainy. My guess is that the flash is not strong enough.I went snorkeling with it in La Jolla, CA.It was a bright day with good visibility although never ideal conditions in this area.Perhaps if I was snorkeling in the Florida Keys - which I've done and got good pics with a Fuji one time use underwater camera.I guess in perfect conditions, any camera works well.I've also tried the Sea & Sea MX5-II with no extra external flash. It took better pictures but it looked like water was getting into the housing. The good thing about the Reefmaster RC is that it looks like it stays dry so less worry about that. One further con though is that you cannot turn the camera on/off from the outside of the housing. You must take the internal camera out.To get around this you can leave it always on - it has an automatic shutoff and then you push down the lever a little to activate the camera.Problem is I couldn't tell if the camera was on and took a few pictures of nothing by accident.I was worried the batteries would die as well. Also, the flash ready light is very hard to see.I might try an additional external flash but that means more $$. ... The silicone mask comfortably seals to your face to keep out water and form an airtight seal to protect against wind. The large silicone band is adjustable on both the left and right. About Speedo
In 1914, Speedo was founded in Australia by Alexander MacRae, a 22-year-old Scottish immigrant who arrived in the country in 1910. The company began when MacRae Hosiery manufacturers, established by Alexander in 1914, extended the manufacture of underwear to swimwear and became MacRae Knitting Mills. A naming competition was held by the staff in 1928 and won by a Captain Parsonson, who coined the slogan, Speed on in your Speedos. In 1929, the first swimsuits were in production and it didn’t take long for Speedo to successfully establish itself. World War II caused the brand turn over 90% of it’s manufacturing to war production, providing the armed services with vital equipment such as mosquito nets. After the war, Speedo opened a new factory and was able to re-establish itself, due to increased demand for swimsuits. In 1951, Speedo Knitting Mills (Holdings) Ltd, was incorporated and became a publicly traded company on the Sydney Stock exchange.

Speedo hit the international stage in earnest, at the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games, and a few years later the brand grew on a more global scale. Export sales to the USA began and an international division was set up to monitor trade in New Zealand, Japan and South Africa. The expansion of the brand continued, and in 1976, Speedo was appointed as the official swimwear for the 1976 Montreal Olympics, where 52 out of 54 countries wore their swimsuits.

Speedo continues to make its mark in the pool and on the beach today. Many world class athletes who wear Speedo include U.S. phenomenon Michael Phelps, legendary Australian swimmer Grant Hackett, world record holder Kosuke Kitajima from Japan, and Holland’s Inge de Bruijn.

Amazon.com Product Description

Carrying on the heritage of its film predecessor, the Olympus Stylus 400 is an ultracompact, all weather, and easy-to-use camera designed for the digital photography enthusiast looking for high performance in a stylish and portable body. It features a 4.0-megapixel resolution, 12x total zoom, and a movie mode for short video clips.

Optics and Resolution
Featuring a 4.0-megapixel CCD sensor, the Stylus 400 delivers images up to 2,272 x 1,704 pixels and prints up to 11 by 14 inches. A high-quality Olympus 3x optical zoom (and 4x digital zoom for a seamless 12x total) gives you the ability to fill your pictures with sharp detail and vibrant color. It features an Olympus aspherical glass lens with a focal range of 5.8-17.4mm (35-105mm equivalent in 35mm photography).

Storage and Transfer
Images are stored on xD Picture Card memory cards. The card's small size, about the same as a postage stamp, helps to keep the camera size down. The included 16 MB card will store approximately 16 images at 2,272 x 1,704 pixels (at HQ, JPEG setting). Images can be downloaded to either a Mac or PC via USB storage-class connectivity, which means the camera can be connected to any USB-based Windows 98 Rev2Me/2000/XP and Mac OS 8.6 or later computer without installing any software.

Movie Mode
In addition to taking still photos, the Stylus 400 can also record movie clips of up to 40 seconds without audio. The QuickTime Motion JPEG format offers limited resolution, which is great for capturing a short movie that can be e-mailed to friends and family, but is no replacement for a true camcorder.

More Features
The Stylus 400 offers basic point-and-shoot simplicity for flawless picture taking. For photographers who want optimum results in a wide variety of settings, the easy-to-use scene modes provide fully automatic exposure adjustments for portrait, self-portrait, and landscape portrait.

Other controls include digital ESP multipattern and spot metering, auto white balance, multiple flash settings, and exposure compensation. The camera comes with a built-in flash that offers four settings to provide the widest range of options.

The lightweight and ergonomic metal body of the Stylus 400 provides all-weather protection from the elements and can even endure a downpour.

Power, Size, and Contents
The camera is powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery. It measures 3.8 by 2.2 by 1.3 inches and weighs 5.8 ounces. This package includes the Stylus 400 digital camera, 16 MB xD Picture Card, rechargeable lithium-ion battery and charger (LI-10B), self-timer remote control (RM-2), USB and AV cables, wrist strap, and CD-ROM with Camedia Master software and USB drivers for Windows and Mac. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY ! !
When I first bought this camera, I loved all the simple-to-follow features. It was lightweight, took clear pictures and was very simple to download. Everything someone looks for in a digital camera, right?. . . Wrong! After approx. 2 years of owning this camera, the sliding on/off "door" started to act up. When you open the "door"/turn it on and go to take a picture, it will retract and shut off on it's own. After a while it constantely did it to the point where taking pictures was a hastle. Now, I am seaching once again for a new digital camera and the $300 I paid for this camera (at the time) is wasted and thrown away. They should test cameras more thoroughly before putting them on the market for hard working buyers to select from.

My next camera, being that the expensive memory cards only are compatibale to Olympus and Fuji, may be the Olympus Stylus 500 5MP. It seems to have gotten very good reviews and I'm willing to give them a second chance but I am doing a bit more studying this time before spending my hard earned money!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantistic camera
My Husband and I found this camera to be great. It is also great for transferring into computer. I have been able to make a photostory with the pictures and download it to a CD, for the purposes of entertaining our family. The pictures are great and it is easy to understand how to operate. I'm not too good in understanding electronic gadgets, but I certainly picked this one up pretty fast. Sometimes, my husband will ask me how to operate the camera. Now, that's a switch :). He usually is the expert in cameras. I bought it for him for Father's day, in 2004, and it's been a fantastic camera. People have asked us where did we get it from. I let them know, we ordered it through amazon.com. I would recommmend this to all who are looking for a great digital camera.

4-0 out of 5 stars Only one problem
I love this camera and have had it for a little over a year.My only complaint is that pictures taken by looking through the view finder come out slightly off center (while the monitor is accurate).I encountered this problem immediately after receiving the camera as a gift. After returning it, I encountered the same problem with the new camera.I wrote to Olympus and received no reply, which made the situation twice as aggravating.I love my camera and consider this problem a minor flaw, however I have likely made my last Olympus purchase.

1-0 out of 5 stars BEWARE _ flimsy media door easily broken
the small peg on the media door
can't handle the "press to open"
action & (on my camera) broke after
maybe a dozen presses.

3-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing image quality from Olympus
In our quest for the perfect digicam, we bought the Stylus 400 in February of 2004.The camera had a lot going for it: small, lightweight, quick start up time, short shot-to-shot lag time. The "weatherproof" feature was also big for us, we're tough on our stuff. We liked the all-metal body for durability, too.

After 10 months of using the camera, these features all lived up as advertised. It survived being dropped and wet or sandy conditions very well.

We purchased a spare battery and charger, and swapped them out every day so we always had a full charge on the camera. We NEVER ran out of charge on a battery.

The driverless USB connection allowed us to unload pictures FAST and very very easily.

Having a camera that could survive the abuse we heaped on it was important, but when it comes right down to it, if the pictures are NO GOOD, then what's the point? And on this the Stylus 400 REALLY disappointed us.Pictures taken without the flash were blurry, (unless under bright bright outdoor light).Pictures taken with the flash were blown out and the colors completely unnatural. And the flash is no good at all beyond about 6 feet.

Olympus is on the right track.Maybe someday they'll combine their quality optics with this sexy, sturdy camera body and they will have the PERFECT camera. But for what we paid (nearly $400 for camera, extra battery, charger, and 64M xD memory chip) it would have been nice to actually get decent pictures.

I don't buy the "if you want good pictures, spend more."I've had cheaper digital cameras that took MUCH better pictures. But they would break the first time I dropped them, then I'd have to duct tape the battery compartment closed or whatever.Or the shot lag was intolerable.Or they'd burn through AA batteries like candy.Good image quality does NOT have to be expensive. It is a darn shame that we can't get it all in one package. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great watch... no complaints
I have had this watch for about 6 months now and I don't have any complaints. The altimeter seems to work well, even after not calibrating it in 4 months it's only off by about 200ft. Although I do remember when I first bought it, I had to calibrate it every week but it has been working fine ever since.

My favorite part of the watch is the barometer (weather) function. If I am going out for a run, and it doesn't look great outside, I can see if the pressure has been dropping and know if it is going to rain or not.

Set up was pretty straignforward; just put in the cd and follow along. You can program the deviation for the compass, altitude etc. A highly satisfied customer.

2-0 out of 5 stars Can't be used while wearing polarized sunglasses
The altimeter seems quite accurate and it does not seem to suffer from too much drift. There must be some kind of motion sensor built-in as it the watch would show no altitude gain/loss when left sitting on a table for 36 hours. The downside is that it seems to take the altimeter awhile to recognize that you are moving as it takes quite a few minutes to register any vertical gain.

The biggest problem with the watch, and the reason I returned it, is that the watch face is unreadable with polarized sunglasses! In order to view the display while wearing polarized sunglasses you either have to extend your arm so that the display is 90 degrees from it's normal orientation (a very uncomfortable position) or peer over the glasses (not good if you are wearing prescription polarized sunglasses and need the glasses to read the display).

The polarization issue seems to be because of the blue compass layer as a regular Oregon Alti was readable in any position.

I wound up spending a bit more and got a Suunto Observer which has been a terrific watch! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Nice watch, lousy watchband
It's a nice enough watch, but the watchband separated from the watch body in less than six months. This isn't one you can replace it, it's molded into the body.I emailed timex, and I got a "We don't make watchbands, contact ..." when I asked if it was possible to replace the watchband. In other words, an even more disposable version than they normally make.I've worn Timex watches since I was a kid.I think this may be my last one. ...
