5-0 out of 5 stars Great Detector For The Price!
This was my second metal detector I had purchased in the past 20 years, my first one also being a Bounty Hunter.I was pleased to see that all aspects of the detector were a vast improvement over my 1980's model. The current model is lightweight and easy to use and does not require constant "re-tuning".Although it lacks a "no-motion" detection mode (only found in detectors costing hundreds of dollars more) the light weight and well thought out design make sweeping the target area easy.It has an easy to understand instruction booklet and is a cinch to assemble.Quality is first rate overall and I would recommend this detector to any beginner or even to a seasoned pro as a decent back-up detector.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good, but...
This Metal Detector is a good intro to metal detecting. It finds coins great and has even paid itself over and over again for me. I've found 3,000 dollars in coins with this thing! It works great and is solidly built, I've dropped it a few times and it just kept on going. Now for the "but" part.... because it is a "mulit-purpose" Detector it's not so good at finding small peices of gold, like small nuggets. It can find the big stuff(at least thats what I've heard) but I have yet to find any nuggets with this thing. BUT! Don't let that discourage you from making a good purchase, afterall, if you find the big one, who cares? But it really is good for coins. For large caches it has a depth of 3 feet! I kid you not! So if for you or as a gift for the kids, pick this up. Who knows, you may find a kings ransom!

    4-0 out of 5 stars Impressed........nice features
I bought one used for [$$$] on ....I started scanning my Girlfriend's yard (house built in 1940's) and immediately picked up all sorts of signals. After a day I became used to the different tones and began discriminating what to and not to dig. That day I found 3 spoons, one of them is silver, and 5 wheat pennies. The next day I searched a sledding hill and found about [$$$] in change.I think its a great deal for the money.

4-0 out of 5 stars It's good, but.......
I collect rare bottle caps, and try to take care not to lose any of my collection.I was coming back from a convention recently and one of my collection boxes hopped out of the back of the pickup as I was crossing an old hump-back bridge, and fell into a small stream.

So I bought the metal detector to try to get my valuable collection back. This one said it is waterproof so I figured it might do the job.

Well, after three weeks of wading up and down the stream I have had mixed fortunes.A Celtic chalice, the silver cumtach (cover) from a medieval bible, two viking swords, a couple of daggers, a mound of celtic, roman and viking coins, an array of viking hacksilver, medieval broches and buckes from shoes and belts, delicately filigreed celtic gold jewellry and most notable of all (since the Romans never made it to Ireland) the metal fittings from eight complete and six incomplete sets of roman imperial legionnary armour.

OK, so I am famous now amongst scholars of the Romano-Celtic world.I have been awarded three honorary doctorate degrees for my finds, and I have been given freedom of the cities of Dublin and York, and I had to decline a Royal knighthood offered by the English Queen (I do have principles and I am an Irish Republican). But what is all this fame?I have lost a box of 200 bottle caps and not found a single one with the detector.

In that collection was a rare 1950's Kirin blue, a 1945 victory V double diamond crown cap and most valuable of all a Grolsch porcelain stopper from the first ever commercial batch. What does it profit a man to gain the world if he loseth his bottle cap collection?

If you buy the metal detector I hope you have more luck than me!

5-0 out of 5 stars Bounty Hunter Tracker IV - No Experience Necessary
I figured that any metal detector would find the '32 Chevy buried in my backyard, but I wanted to find coins, rings, and Civil War relics in my 5 acre woods. It took 5 minutes to assemble the Tracker IV and about 15 minutes to review the instruction manual.Round up a few coins, a gold ring, and some nails and run through the demonstration on page 5 of the manual. It will give you an idea of how different objects respond to the 3 detection modes.

I borrowed my wife's headphones (highly recommended) and headed for the woods.Within minutes I found beer cans, shotgun shells, nails. The detector will pinpoint an object close enough that you can dig it up with a few scoops of a garden trowel. On my second attempt I found a man's silver ring.

Tracker IV appears to be well constructed and a good value.I don't have any experience with other detectors, but I can't imagine that any are easier to use than this one.Tracker IV is a great choice for your kids to use, if they can get it away from you! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Mine just died
After about seven years of great service, my wrist now bears a dead AMW320D (great name, eh, really trips off the tongue).I went in for my third battery replacement and the jeweler told me that corrosion had eaten away at the movement. The first time I replaced the battery I learned that the seal had to be broken and the watch might no longer resist water. The soft rubbery plastic strap died long ago, replaced by a superior twist-o-flex-style metal wrist band.
Now you might think I'm dissatisfied. But I intend to order another the minute (or so -- I don't have a working watch) I finish writing this review. Why?It has been a great watch.Analog plus digital gives me easy-to-read intuitive time checking, along with all the bells and whistles of silicon: multiple times, alarm, stop watch, and calendar. The outer ring on the face lets me rotate the "north" arrow to a future time, say 45 minutes from now, and I know time's up when the minute hand gets there.(I have no idea why the face ring has compass points and degrees marked on it -- to fool one's friends?)The watch has been rugged, holding up to the shock of using hoes and axes, although I didn't push my luck if I remembered to take it off.
I'm looking at my old friend, now motionless and blank, and figure he had a pretty good run.Time's up for this timepiece, at a cost of a little more than $10 per year. Since I bought the last one on display at Mervyn's, I didn't get a box or manual and didn't even know what it was called AMW320D until looking it up on the web just now.AMW320D I didn't even know your name all these great years together.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best of both watch worlds
This Marine Gear has become one of my favorite watches of all time. And take this from an enthousiastic collector who's tried out quite a few watches. If you're like me, you might like to alternate at times between analog and digital watches.I find myself using an analog watch about 60% of the time because they look great and it's easy to see how much time you've got left.On the other hand, digitals get about 40% of my wrist time, especially when I'm in a casual, sport, or technical mode.

Well, here's a watch that's the best of both worlds. With this Marine Gear, Casio has a real classic "diver" watch both in form and function.

In function, this watch has all the classical functions I like in in the digital line-up: stopwatch, alarm, hourly beep, and date. The digital time and dual time has come in handy, especially travelling. In fact, with the analog hands, you can have three time zones on your watch at once. Also, it is easy to synchronize the digital and analog seconds. In the analog department, the hand are the easy to see-at-a-glance oversized diver fashion. The hour markers are made to show up in the dark.My only disappointment is that the luminosity lasts only for an hour so in the dark; it won't get you through the night. But that's only a minor let-down.

As to form, here's a real classic look in the world of water sport and divers watches.I've found that the hefty steel case, elapsed-time ring, canary yellow dial, and wide black divers strap make a really attractive and tough-looking wrist accessory that get lots of remarks like, "great watch!" from friends.

I first noticed this Marine Gear in about 1989 and immediatly thought, "Wow, gotta get this watch!"(In those days, the first Marine Gears has the function pushers at 8 and four rather than at 8 and 10 on the latest models.) Even though that watch is still working fine after about 15 years, I got a couple of others too.In the mid-90's, Casio put out a models with black and white dials andsteel band.I like them too, though I wear them with the the black divers bands which still seem readily available as replacements. However, after all, I think the Yellow dial model is still the coolest.

Take it from a watch freak who thinks the bigger the better, if you're into the divers style in watches, you'll come to like the size and heft of this Casio and its tough indesructability and maybe come to think too that is one of the greatest of all time.

5-0 out of 5 stars I can finally buy a new one after 10 years
I have had this watch since 1994 (Ten Years) and it finally stopped working. This watch has been through more than most people will do in a life time.If you are looking for a watch that is going to last, this is the one.

3-0 out of 5 stars The Duckman
Watch is beautiful and looks good in an adventurous or casual environment with it's gold face.It is a bit heavier than many sport watches (i.e. Casio, Suunto, etc.) with resin bands. As far as the resin band, it tends to split after months of use necessitating replacement.I've owned two of these watches in five years and have cycled through 6 watchbands.

Overall, the watch is a good value, and even after battery replacements waterproof integrity has not been compromised.

Give us a more durable band Casio. If you did this, the AMW320D-9EV Analog/Digital Watch would be a superlative watch.

5-0 out of 5 stars I've had two
After replacing the battery for the second time (they last about 3-4 years), my watch had a moisture problem and I couldn't get the fog out of it... the o-ring probably wasn't sealed well.So I gave that one up and bought another just like it.I've had this one for about 4 years now and still think its the perfect watch. It has the digital window with dates, alternate times, and stop watch yet still has an attractive traditional watch style. The only drawback to the standard features is the band...I've found that it lasts only about a year and a half before it breaks...you will definitely want to get a fabric sports band when the stock one gives out. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Not a bad intro detector for Park or Playground hunting.
For the same price you can pick up the SAME detector at WalMart. It's Wally-branded the Pioneer 202 there, but it's the same detector.

It's a nice enough "intro-level" detector to see if the hobby is something you might want to get serious about and thus make the necessary investments and upgrades to equipment designed for the long-haul or extended use.

If you really want a fair to good dectector, I'd seriously try the Prizm series (III-V) of the Whites Electronics line or a similar intro models meade by more reknowned companies like Whites, Garrett, Fisher, Tesorro or even the foreign-made Explorer.

    PROS:
    - Dandy little "coin-shooter" for kids and visitors while YOU use the "real" thing
    - Ideal for sandy or chip-filled play areas
    - Lightweight and easy to use and adjust
    - Great little machine for curious relatives/friends to try, kids over 12 or to loan to land owners whose property you'd like to detect.
    - Not a "bad" investment for the money, but there ARE better detectors in the $200 range.

    CONS:
    - Like most detectors, it'll eat up those 9volt batteries in no time if you're not using headphones (Upgrading would save you batteries)
    - Not having a adjustable strap over the arm cup is literally a real pain in the arm!
    - No depth (about 4 inches is pushing it, though it's picked up quarters in "clean" soil at 6 inches)
    - Wil NOT work anywhere NEAR a salt beach...not even in the dry dunes. In fact, I couldn't use it to hunt a park about a mile inland because the Rec Dept had used beach sand for the play areas.
    - Overloads easily in trashy areas or mineralized soil.
    - Totally worthless for relic hunting.

5-0 out of 5 stars Discover treasures untold...
Ho, noble comrades! `Twas time again for the Fellowship Fan Club to host its Annual Sauron Scavenger Hunt. As ever, the goal was simple: Club Chairman Solun Fangtooth (my neighbor, Glen) took thine replica One Ring, authentic down to the Mordor Elvish inscribed around the band, and hid it in yon forested creek behind his parents' abode. The five new members of the cabal, myself included, would comb the wilderness in search of this mighty treasure. He who was first to unearth Sauron's golden band of evil would be promoted from rank of Hobbit to the Council of Elrond, and get to choose the location for our next screening of all three LOTR films.

The rules of the hunt are simple: any method is allowed, provided it can be justified as the tactics and materials of a fantasy character.

The other four fledglings, cloaked in robes of Rivendell and carrying Torches of Truth (in the form of flashlights), scoured the wooded gully, seeking some minor clue of Fangtooth's passing. But having shared a road-trip to ComiCon with Fangtooth, I knew him to be a wily foe - it would take wits, not persistence, to uncover the location of the One Ring.

To this end, I unsheathed mine ultimate weapon: the Bounty Hunter Quick Draw II Metal Detector. A gift from my patriarch for the passage of boyhood to man, I had honed my skills at alloy retrieval on the sands of Hilton's Head. Finding 64¢ in Coins of the Realm, I knew the path to advancement lay in the probing waves of this device.

Setting the proper adjustments to compensate for uninteresting metallic flotsam (nails, etc.), I knew the rhythmic beeps of the Quick Draw II would lead me to victory. In practiced, methodical sweeps of the search coil, I combed the creekbed, finding the One Ring in a shallow pool, partially buried in the silt. Victory was mine. My own.

Of course, there were protestations at my ingenuity. Some argued that the technological marvel of the Quick Draw II was outside the boundaries of our club charter. However, I deftly explained that the very name of this product led me to adopt the perfect fantasy persona: I was a bounty hunter - one who used any means necessary to achieve his goals. I was Bilbo Fett!

    5-0 out of 5 stars `underestimated detector
The Bounty hunter QDII is a detector that allows both the proffesional and amateur detectorist to make excellent finds. although it is in Bounty hunters interest to push their higher price models, the QDII is probably the equal of most detectors in a much higher price bracket, and is in my opinion not promoted enough.
It is good on the beach, on both wet and dry sand, it is at home inland, in forest, park, or ploughed field. it is advanced in its electronics, and very lightweight. this detector is in a class of its own, and very affordable. Dont allow the low price to put you off, this detector is easily the equal of detectors in the £600 price range, and will pay for itelf in no time at all.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best metal detector for the money anywhere!
I did a lot of searching and review reading on the internet before finally deciding what to buy. I am convinced Quick Draw II is THE best value available of any make by any conpany. The features on the QDII are generally found only on much higher priced detectors. This thing really works as advertised. I have already found several coins and other things right in my own yard. It will reliably indicate what coin is being detected although it many times confuses dimes and pennies on the LCD readout. It is very sensitive and detects most coin size items very reliably to about 6 or 8 inches. The auto notch discrimination works well and filters out most trash items. I have used metal detectors that ended up being aggravating and frustrating. This one is a pleasure to use and is quickly becoming a relaxing and profitable pastime for me. If you want a serious metal detector without spending a whole lot of money give it a try... you won't be disappointed...

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing
This detector is an amazing value for such a low price.Featuring everything a beginner or experience tresure hunter could ever need.Includes feature that tells what kind of metal and also approximatly how deep it's in the ground, a great help! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Exceptional EVERYTHING -- in short, BUY THIS NOW!
Like many others, I have been a LOYAL Casio fan ever since a friend of mine who was working to become an Underwater Parabolic Welder tell me about 'the toughest watch known to man'.He proceeded to pull the watch off his wrist and throw it as hard as he could on his concrete driveway.I hardly had any time to react before he finished, picked it up and showed me how it had suffered no damage whatsoever (other than a couple of scratches). This was 1987.I have been a Casio Believer ever since.

I have owned I don't know HOW many G-Shock watches over the years and the number has nothing to do with how long they last, I just like to collect 'em so I happen to have several that I still use.My oldest model dates back to probably 1989, and is still going strong by the way. When people say the Casio G-Shock is the toughest watch in the world, they are simply stating a FACT.Recently I have been noticing in reports from Iraq that virtually every US Soldier are wearing G-Shocks.Is it an endorsement?Who knows? All I know is that if these watches can withstand combat conditions, it'll survive anything I can dish out.

Now Casio has finally designed a watch which looks as good at a formal dinner as it does while mountain climbing. Some think that it will never truly *look* quite formal, but I totally disagree. It looks good! The size doesn't matter since I love a good solid watch regardless of size.Do NOT be fooled that because this model can receive signals from the atomic clock in Colorado and is powered by simple sunlight that the watch is HUGE, and that just isn't the case.I know several wrist watches that are just as large and offer much less bang for the buck.Sure, you can shop around to get the best possible price and you may get anywhere from a good deal to a great deal -- but one thing is certain: it is WORTH the prize no matter WHAT you pay.Absolute accuracy, never replace the battery and great looks...what more IS there??

When you hear that a G-Shock watch is tough, unless you are already familiar with their durability, you won't fully understand until you've had a chance to test drive one for a while. My first atomic/solar G-Shock (yes, I own more than one) is going on 3 years old now and only once did the charge fall below 'HIGH' and that was simply because I had stuffed it on my closet shelf for about 3 weeks...and then it was only down to 'Medium'.Casual wear every day will keep the battery at full charge.I can't SWEAR to that, but if this helps any, I wear mine about every 2-3 days and it still shows a full charge. All I can say is this: if you are torn between buying a durable watch to wear while hiking and buying a ridiculously expensive model for formal situations, save yourself and get just this one.Good luck and enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars Kicks ass
Tough watch.I've got the MTG 9200A (metal band, gun-metal finish).Love the fact that it synchronizes with the atomic clock...can't go wrong with that.Looks good on my wrist.Pretty much indestructible.I've owned G-Shocks before, so I'm already a convert.Only had it for a few months, but battery appears to hold charge fairly well (I'm able to get it out in the sun for at least a couple of hours a day).Heard that some people have had problems with the watch holding a charge after a year or so...guess that I'll have to see what happens when I get there.I don't use the "auto-backlight" function, so that probably saves some juice there.Overall, very satisfied with the purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific watch...
I have been a G-shock owner for over 15 years. I have also owned some other brands (Swiss Army, Pulsar, Citizen) and those were some good watches but I always come back to the GShock.

There are several reasons why I like this model of G-shock:

    1. G Shock's can never really be considered classy, but this comes a little closer to that designation. I love the steel band and the silver appearance of the watch. It is a watch you can wear hiking (and not be worried that you will break it) and to a night out on the town.

    2. Discussion buzz--Few watches can you spend time in a group discussing but this is one watch you can do that with...people are immediately drawn to it because of its appearance (size and color) and it is cool to discuss all the things that this watch can do.

    3. Solar--I am tired of replacing batteries in a watch...no need to with this watch.

    4. Atomic TimeKeeping--I love how the time is accurate every day. No adjusting. Very cool.

    5. Time Zones--If you are traveling quite a bit, it is nice to be able to simply scroll through the time zones and find your location. Nice feature.

Overall--I enjoy this watch because of its functions and its appearance. I also like explaining this watch to other people. This is a great watch...to steal Siskel and Ebert's line, 2 thumbs up!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very pleased so far
So far, everything has worked perfectly. When it got to me in the box, it was still at the second highest carge level, and had calibrated 3-4 days ago.Once out, it calibrated the first night and every night since (I am on the east coast).I like how it looks and it seems well built. If you are like me and like to always have the correct time, I recommend it. ... Great combo digital/analog watch for the price point. All the functions you need time,time2,date,seconds,chrono w/lap, countdown with 3 stages, alarm 1&2. Analog has easy to see hands with a second hand sweep in orange. Indiglo on digital only. Big complaint: no hourly chime!!! I need this feature. However, the watch allows you to turn off the digital display, which hides any trace of digital display... making it look like a normal analog watch. The watch works as advertised. This watch is useful for someone that is interested in seeing detailed graphs of their heart rate activity during exercise.

I was skeptical of the software and EPOC readings, but after a few weeks with it, I'm impressed. The EPOC readings and the software are eeriely reasonable. In addition, the transmitter belt/watch interface is much better than Polar's.

The lack of availability of speed & distance pods makes some of the high end Polar watches look more attractive, but I like the watch interface better than Polar. And, as a Polar user for 3 years, I'm tired of my Polar watches failing. So I gave Suunto a try. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great watch... no complaints
I have had this watch for about 6 months now and I don't have any complaints. The altimeter seems to work well, even after not calibrating it in 4 months it's only off by about 200ft. Although I do remember when I first bought it, I had to calibrate it every week but it has been working fine ever since.

My favorite part of the watch is the barometer (weather) function. If I am going out for a run, and it doesn't look great outside, I can see if the pressure has been dropping and know if it is going to rain or not.

Set up was pretty straignforward; just put in the cd and follow along. You can program the deviation for the compass, altitude etc. A highly satisfied customer.

2-0 out of 5 stars Can't be used while wearing polarized sunglasses
The altimeter seems quite accurate and it does not seem to suffer from too much drift. There must be some kind of motion sensor built-in as it the watch would show no altitude gain/loss when left sitting on a table for 36 hours. The downside is that it seems to take the altimeter awhile to recognize that you are moving as it takes quite a few minutes to register any vertical gain.

The biggest problem with the watch, and the reason I returned it, is that the watch face is unreadable with polarized sunglasses! In order to view the display while wearing polarized sunglasses you either have to extend your arm so that the display is 90 degrees from it's normal orientation (a very uncomfortable position) or peer over the glasses (not good if you are wearing prescription polarized sunglasses and need the glasses to read the display).

The polarization issue seems to be because of the blue compass layer as a regular Oregon Alti was readable in any position.

I wound up spending a bit more and got a Suunto Observer which has been a terrific watch! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Doxa Dirk Pitt Sub 600T-Great item
Great item.Comes packaged very well, and instruction manual is an interactive CD-Rom.Watch is extremely well made, and well finished.Extremely accurate. If you're looking for a sports watch that's a real head turner, this is the one for you.

3-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic wach, but...
Its not a big deal really, as long as your pacient. I ordered my watch on April 11th and was told that it was in stock. After more than a week it still hadn't arrived. I contacted Doxa USA and recieved a return e-mail stating that they were having production problems. My watch would be shipped in the next ten buissness days. It did finally show up roughly six days after the ten day window expiered. on May the 16th. Inside the original shipping window. Now maybe I'm spoiled from buying though Amazom.com, with the tracking options and notices when things are delaided, etc. But I had to intiate the feedback from Doxa, no the other way around. Don't get me wrong, this is a great watch, absolutly beutiful, and worth the money. It is everything that you would expect in swiss craftmanship and design. I'm just a little perplexes that the same care for detail found in the construction of the watch dosen't seem to exstend to it's customer service.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome timepiece
I actually bought the watch directly from Doxa and I was warned about the $28 customs invoice from Fedex and my emails were addressed within 1 business day so,no problems in the logistics department. Now that it is almost 1 year since my purchase of the 373 out of 3000 timepiece, here's what I have to say: This thing is rock solid and can take a lot of abuse without too many complaints. I swim almost daily and wear it in the steam room as well and so far, no loss of luster because of chlorine in the water or anything else. The time is pretty accurate - I found about 5-10 seconds per month deviation which I am pretty pleased with. I also like the scratchproof crystal which I thought I busted on numerous occasions but then I would look at the watch and instead of seeing a big ugly scratch - nothing! The bad thing about the crystal is the fact that it gets covered with condensation when I am in the steam room - I don't know if it's because it is convex in shape or something else because I saw a guy with a Rolex that had a flat crystal and it did not get any condensation...again this is more of a nuissance than a serious flaw because all I have to do if I want to check the time in the steam room is to wipe it with a finger and I am good for the next 5 seconds until the screen get covered again. My little back plate that was covering(more for aesthetic reasons than practical) the center back has disconnected probably because I use this thing in the water daily but I don't care - I put it back in the beautiful aluminum case the watch came in since it is completely irrelevant to the functioning of the watch anyway.
What else? Ohh, I wish the date would recognize automatically even and odd months - every 2 months I have to manually adjust instead of 31 to the 1st of the month but I guess such a feature would add another $1,000 to the cost so I am good. I love the luminous handles and the sturdiness of the bracelet and expect this thing to work for many years to come. If you're a water enthusiast or just want a cool piece of swiss hardware, my adviceis to go get it.

2-0 out of 5 stars problems with the original
In 1975, I bought an organge faced Doxa 600T.Back then they were only a few hundred dollars. While it kept good time, and I loved the self winding mechanism, after only a few months the rotating bezel starting coming off at the lightest tap.It would snap back on, but never stayed in place. Several jeweler's told me it wasn't designed well and could not be repaired.

1-0 out of 5 stars Pissed at non-availability
It states that the watch will be here in 1-3 days. There is no number with which to call Doxa or Amazon for that matter.I just want the watch that I paid $1200 for.I don't want a refund either.Doxa has come out with a "dirk Pitt" addition where it says dirk pitt where it used to say Professional.I better get one of the 3000 re-issued watches.I have e-mailed Doxa on several occasions with no reply.

    I'm pissed.
