The Suunto Mosquito is an advanced wristop dive computer for the active water sports enthusiast. With complete air and nitrox capability and a separate free diving mode it is suitable for all kinds of diving. The Mosquito is made of composite material and is streamlined and lightweight, provides watch functions and stopwatch, and has an user replaceable battery. The Mosquito is water resistant to 100m, has user changeable units and supports the Dive Manager PC interface. The Suunto Mosquito provides different operating modes for different types of diving. In Air mode it is an advanced dive computer with full decompression capability. In addition to complete dive functions the Mosquito provides extensive memory functions, profile recording and dive planning functionality. The logbook can keep up to 36 hours of diving, and the lifetime dive history is also recorded. The model can be adjusted using personal/altitude settings. Don't dive without it!
I have done more than a 100 dives in the last 3 years and most of them with one kind of dive computer or another. A few weeks ago I stumbled into a weeks diving in Sardinia's caves (that you have to try!) without any gear on me as I was on the motorbike. I borrowed a Suunto Mosquite among other computers and was so impressed that I went out to buy myself a Suunto Stinger which is the same functionality in a nice metallic package. I did decompression dives, nitrox dives, up to three dives a day, and night and cave dives with it. The computer I have with all my dive gear is a Uwatec Air-Z which is a great product, but it is huge on your wrist. The Stinger I wear as a larger sports wristwatch. I can recommend the Suunto Mosquito and Stinger to a novice as well as for an advanced diver as it is really easy to use. It simply guides you through zero time, decompression and safety stops, as well as ascent speed warnings. The green background lighting worked great during night and cave dives. In difference to most other products, you can customize the Suunto computers to your physique with parameters as sex, age and weight. By the way, I can't wait to get back to Sardinia ... ... If you go down, go down with the best! Suunto!
I fell in love with Suunto while diving in Australia. The rental gear I used included a Suunto dive computer. It was so easy to use that when I decided in 1997 that diving was going to be a permanent activity in my life I began looking for Suunto dive computers.

The dive computer I decided on was a Cobra. The Cobra is a wonderful computer that would take me into several years of diving and eight years later I wouldn't trade it for the world. The best part of my Suunto Cobra is the versatility. Suunto Cobra dive computer features: air integration, imperial and metric, programmable altitudes,nitrox and compressed air use, multiple fitness levels for safer diving, dive planning for maximum dive time, the ability to download dives into your computerized dive log, and so much more.

At first glance you might think why would I need so many bells and whistles? But let me assure you that as you continue to dive you'll expand on both your skills and needs. So essentially this computer will grow with your needs. As a beginning diver you might not dive outside the United States so an imperial read out would be fine but as you become a better diver you'll want to dive in many other places. Some of those places use metric only and being able to convert your system to metric will aid you in finding a dive buddy anywhere in the world. The more you dive the more you expand on your skills and certifications and if you become a certified nitrox diver you'll need a computer that can calculate the nitrox mixture and tissue gas so if you already have a Suunto Cobra you don't have to buy another instrument. The Suunto Cobra can already do that for you.

Another great advantage of the Suunto Cobra is that it holds 36 hours of diving. Many dive computers only hold a specific number of dives; the Suunto Cobra holds hours of actual diving versus a specific number of dives. So you can go on vacation for a week and hold every dive in memory so upon return to your home you can down load every dive into your log.

Also, the Suunto Cobra console housing allows you to mount a compass for navigation and is lightweight.So many of the rental computers I tried were very heavy and awkward but the Cobra is streamlined and proportional for my needs.

I love Suunto products and I especially love my dive computer, The Suunto Cobra.

Works great, but doesn't calculate required surface interval
This is my first dive computer, so perhaps my expectations were high in thinking it would calculate the necessary surface intervals between dives. In fact, it only measures the amount of surface time between dives -- you still need to figure out your ending pressure group, etc.

I just bought this computer less than a month ago and recently used it during a dive vacation in Bonaire. For what it does, it does quite well. I used it on the air-only setting, and used the max depth and timed dive alarms, both of which worked quite well. I took it on a night dive and found the backlight not as necessary as anticipated because you can just shine the light onto your computer.

The documentation leaves a lot to be desired. First of all, the computers (I bought two at the same time) came only with manuals in French and Spanish. The English manual is available on Suunto's Web site as a PDF, but it was a real pain to print out all 71+ pages and lug them around. The manual isn't written very well either, with about 40% of it comprised of disclaimers, warnings, and other Suunto CYA in ALL CAPS, and the manual unnecessarily refers to the buttons on the computers by function rather than label. For example, why refer to a button as "PLAN" when it's marked as "Mode" on the device? It's better than nothing, I guess. The computer also comes with a handy, if not complicated, waterproof quick reference card.

When I got home, I downloaded all my dive info to my laptop pretty effortlessly (the cable and software is sold separately). I'm impressed with the amount of data that is automatically stored. The software even generates a graph of each dive based on your minute-by-minute depth. The software doesn't seem to support multiple profiles, so if you and your dive buddy have the same computer, you'll need to install the software on different machines.

All in all, I'd recommend this computer, but I have no other frame of reference since it's my first one. The device works as advertised, but make sure your first few dives with it aren't heavy duty, because you'll be fiddling with it quite a bit no matter how many times you've read the manual. ...
