Not waterproof as advertised
The collar is not waterproof.If your dog goes in the water, the collar is ruined.

PetSafe radio fence for cats
I definately recommend this product for cats - it works very well on our cat who used to wander miles from home, and now stays strictly within the fence boundary.

We recently installed one of these in our yard to keep our wandering cat safe from the coyotes that killed his brother. I was very skeptical that this would work on cats - it is designed for dogs - but if you get the adjustable one, with 5 levels of "correction", and the lightweight collar for very small dogs, it can be used on cats. After positioning the wire around our large yard and hooking it up to the transmitter (actually very easy to do), we tried it on our cat. He immediately went close to the boundary flags, heard the warning beeping, went closer and got zapped, causing him to leap about a yard in the air. (I had it on the lowest setting, which I tried first on myself, and although it doesn't hurt too much, it really gets your attention.) That is the only time I actually saw him get zapped. Over the next few days, he would approach the wire and flags, hear the warning beeps, and immediately turn around and leave the area. We stayed out with him the first several weeks. Now, we trust him a lot more and let him out alone, although we check on him often.
This fence will not, of course, keep predators OUT of the yard - we are careful to keep an eye out for coyotes and only let him out during the day. But the fence does work very well for cats as well as dogs. I am now burying the wire, which actually is fairly easy and quick to do too.

Eliminated major headaches - LOVE IT!!!
We own two dogs.In a matter of a few days, this radio fence eliminated some MAJOR dog owner headaches.

Problem #1 - When properly motivated, our Border Collie could dig out of the yard in ten seconds flat.

Problem #2 - Every chance he got, our Schnauzer loved to dart out the door or gate and run around the neighborhood (eliminating in neighboring yards).

Problem #3 - When our dogs got out together, they would go wandering around - across busy roads.

Problem #4 Excessive barking when our dogs would "race" the dogs next door up and down the fence.

Obviously, when our dogs get out, they are putting themselves in danger, and irritating the neighbors.I often though it just wasn't worth it - just get rid of the dogs!

We found this system and we were skeptical, but desperate.So we tried it out.I don't know if all dogs respond as quickly as ours did (the manual says it can take up to two weeks of consistent training).

Our Schnauzer was completely contained the same day we put it in (he was already familiar with the warning beep because of a bark collar he used to wear). And he's very sensitive (and smart).

We trained our Border Collie three days to familiarize her with the warning beep and what she should do when it sounds.All it took after that was a couple of "shocks" and she figured it out real quick!

Some people might think the shocking is inhumane and cruel, but our Schnauzer (because of his previous experience with the bark collar) has never been shocked on this system and the Border Collie - only a couple of times.Anyone should agree that is better than containing them buy a rope or in the garage and definitely better than them getting hit by a car.

Installation was very easy. just plug it in and connect the wires after you run it around the property.The most labor intesive part was burying the wire (only a couple of inches deep)

We contained a one acre property along a chain link fence and around an unfenced front yard.We now can leave gates and doors open and our dogs can "hang out" with us in the front yard.WE LOVE IT!!Our dogs changed from 90% headache to 90% pleasure.Definitly worth it!! ... Read more
