Lets settle this thing once and for all.
My guess is that many of you interested in trying a box of Clif Bars are confused and wary due to the intensely polarized nature of the reviews you've been reading on the internet.I'm going to try to offer a little more nuanced insight and hopefully can help you decide if you'd like them or not.

Let me start by saying that I think Clif Bars are pretty delicious.I will also admit, however, that I am not very good to my tastebuds.I stay far away from pretty much all high glycemic carbs (sugary food) and saturated fats (savory food).So my daily Clif Bar is pretty much the only sweet treat my tummy gets.Having said that, let's determine in which camp you're likely to find yourself. I'm going to go ahead and say that most of the people complaining to the effect that Clif Bars don't taste so hot or have a gross composition would be more comfortable with a box of doughnuts.And I don't think very highly of the oft-repeated criticism that Clif Bars look gross.Who really gives what the thing looks like?Bust out some cake icing and decorate it if you can't get over the appearance; or close your eyes, or just go back to the recliner in front of the tv and spare us the agony of having to listen to you react to trying new things.

A common complaint that I will agree with is that Clif Bar flavors can be kind of same-y.That's not to say that they don't taste good, but if you're planning on buying them in bulk and testing out a few different flavors, spread out your choices among the flavor spectrum.Contrary to what you think, you will not find yourself reveling in the subtle nuances among the chocolate flavors.Here's a recommendation breakdown, assuming you're picking no more than one flavor from each of the following groups:

-As far as chocolate flavors go, Chocolate Almond Fudge and Cool Mint Chocolate are the best choices.
Stay AWAY from Chocolate Brownie.It tastes (ok, ok, and looks) like a serving of coconut oil-soaked asphalt.

-For fruit flavors, I'd recommend Black Cherry Almond, but you won't go wrong with Lemon Poppyseed or Cranberry Apple Cherry either.

-Most of the "specialized flavors" have enough effort put into them to stand out on their own even against each other. I'm basically referring to Carrot Cake and Pumpkin Pie.They areboth ridiculously tasty.Go for it.

-If you're feeling boring, and you don't mind the fact that you can get a similar product from virtually any health food company, Peanut Butter is a pretty reliable standby.I get it just so that I have something to measure the more experimental flavors against.Same with Oatmeal Raisin Walnut...good for reminding youthat the other flavors are spoiling you. There'snothing wrong with Chocolate Chip either, but really, what's the point of even getting a Clif Bar if you're that conservative?

So, to wrap it up: If you're a decadent eater, and can admit it to yourself, you're better off just staying away from nutrition bars.The only ones that are going to cut it for you are going to be the ones that aren't too nutritious at all.As far as actually somewhat healthy ones go though, Clif Bar tastes the best.If you appreciate healthy and unadorned food in it's own right, Clif Bars will be your new favorite snack.

Tasteless
I love Clif bars, but the peanut toffee buzz are flavorless.Try the almond crunch if you would like to enjoy the experience.

Clif Bars Are the Best!
After trying the apple caramel cobbler, I ordered 3 more boxes.They are just wonderful.I am a law student, keep long hours, and need something to keep me going.These bars have become my standard lunch, and many of my classmates munch on them during classes.My husband is a diabetic, and I won't let him go anywhere without 1.If his blood sugar crashes, he pops a sugar packet and then eats a Clif bar and his blood sugar is evened out for hours.My daughter was having problems with hypoglycemia, and a Clif bar at lunchtime has taken care of the problem.I have to agree with folks who dislike the peanut bars; I really can't stand them.But every other flavor that I've tried, and I think that's most of them, has been just wonderful.I'll have a stack with me when I take the bar.

Health-wise, these are consistently the best bars available.Most of their competitors load up their products with refined sugars, artificial flavors, and/or other preservatives and flavor enhancers.Clif bars are made from organic soy, oats, and more natural sweeteners.The only downside is some varieties are too sweet.The apple cobbler has 25 grams of sugars.Even an excess of natural sweeteners are not good for you.

For the most part, they taste very good, although I mainly stick with the chocolate varieties.Some of the fruit varieties are too sweet and don't have the best taste to them.Clif might benefit from substituting the overly-used evaporated cane juice with limited amounts of fruit juices, as Odwalla does.

Prices range from 67 cents (last month on Amazon) to $1.50 per bar.Anything under a dollar is a good deal, given the quality of this product.

A Chai Lover's Treat
Chai Tea and Dulce de Leche are tied for my favorite bars.Absolute heaven.It's become very tempting to just munch on these for snacks (180 cal per bar) instead of eating lunch.I'm not so crazy about the chocolate versions but that's a personal preference (too chalky for my taste).Amazon sells these at a great deal but be forewarned: buy boxes as you NEED them.Don't stock up.More than once has Amazon sent me a box due to expire in the next two weeks.Good thing I polish them off so quickly!

Luna Lemon Zest is my favorite!All the bars that they make taste wonderful!They fill you up, give you great energy and leaves no bad after-taste.These are a great and healthy alternative to "snacking" on junk.

I am so glad I checked on Amazon for these bars.I was paying $1.17 per bar at Walmart and that was the cheapest I could find.You can't beat this price and I got the bars very quickly and the shipping was free for two cases.I will be ordering these all the time.

By far- the best tasting, low cal. bar
I've tried every low fat, low carb, low calorie bar out there and this is the best. I'm not a big fan of chocolate and this is just the right amount of chocolate flavor. Very filling too. Other luna bar flavors aren't as good as this one. Perfect for moms on the go!!

delicious & healthy snack!
A few months ago I was shopping for a quick, on-the-go breakfast bar. I had planned to buy granola bars or cereal bars, but my boyfriend suggested I try the Clif and Luna bars as a healthier alternative. Now I'm a junkie for these things--I eat at least one a day, if not more! It's so easy to just toss one in my backpack or my purse on my way out the door!

The biggest challenge I have is finding the flavors I like at the store. Chai Tea is by far my favorite (Lemon Zest is a distant second), but the grocery stores in my area hardly ever have them in stock. My Favorite Zone-bar Flavors!
I must confess that I've become almost hopelessly addicted to these scrumptious Zone Perfect bars (eaten strictly "one-at-a-time" either as a "quick breakfast" or as a scheduled, mid-afternoon/late-night "snack", per Barry Sears' "Zone" dietary prescription). Of late, these "processed" bars constitute, arguably, my only remaining (edible) "vice", insofar as I keep right on indulging in them daily despite the presence of some measure of "palm-kernel" oil or, still worse, "fractionated palm-kernel" oil in most, if not all, of the varieties of Zone Perfect "nutrition" bars. [I do wish the manufacturer could/would somehow "upgrade" that particular ingredient. As fats go, ordinary "palm" oil is ONE thing (arguably, not necessarily bad for you); but, reportedly, the more saturated "palm-KERNEL" oil is yet another thing; and then "FRACTIONATED (i.e., "processed") palm-kernel" oil is reportedly still worse--maybe not fully as bad as "hydrogenated" oils (a.k.a. "trans" fats), but possibly still close enough to merit a modicum of concern.]

But, face it, (virtually) ALL brands of "nutrition bars" (not to mention many old-fashioned "candy bars" and countless other processed-food products) continue to include either "palm-kernel" or even "hydrogenated" oils, and so I certainly don't mean to "demonize" any one brand of bar. And I rationalize my own gleefully continuing consumption of these delectable bars thusly:so long as I ALSO continue to eat only "fully Zone-favorable (i.e., healthy)" LUNCHES and EVENING MEALS, my health will (I pray!) not unduly suffer from the presence of a bit of "relatively unhealthy" vegetable oil in my beloved 2 (or 3!) "snack" bars per day.

The two brands of "nutrition" bars that I happen to favor (partly because they--more or less--have the best overall "Zone-favorable" balance of carbohydrate (40%) to protein (30%) to fat (30%), and partly because I simply happen to LIKE them) are the "Body for Life" bars and (still better!) these "Zone Perfect" bars. To my sensibilities, the "Zone" bars, collectively, feature the most satisfying combination/degree of size, shape, crunchiness, moistness, and (of course!) enticing, mouthwatering FLAVOR!

Now, not only are some of the Zone Perfect bars' NAMES a bit misleading (because a given bar might taste much better--or, in a tiny few instances, a bit less good--than its given name implies), but, as the old saw goes, "there's no accounting for taste" anyway, and indeed I'm (pretty much) glad we don't all favor the very same things in this life. That said, here is how I myself rank the various Zone-bar flavors I've tried thus far (i.e., there are still a few other--very alluring!--Zone Perfect flavors that I've yet to sample):

TIED FOR "FIRST PLACE":

Chocolate Almond Raisin. Wow! The "whole" almonds and the pieces of raisins are lusciouslycomplemented by some sort of mysterious flavoring that keeps me coming back for more.

Chocolate Raspberry. What a great, addictive combination of flavors! This is a flavor that can really grow on you after several days, even if it doesn't impress you at first.

Strawberry Yogurt. This bar has a sort of "white chocolate" coating, much as the "Lemon Yogurt" bar does. But unlike the "artificial" taste of the latter bar, the strawberry bar's taste seems both intensely "fruity" and fully gratifying! When you want a break from the usual "milk chocolate" bar, this is a great choice.

Apple Cinnamon. This bar has neither a "dark" nor a "white" chocolate coating. In fact, it doesn't need ANY such coating, for its "apple & cinnamon" flavor is even better than the name suggests, not to mention the bar is pleasingly moist while still being satisfyingly crunchy.


COLLECTIVELY TIED FOR (A VERY CLOSE) "SECOND PLACE":

Chocolate Almond Biscotti.
Fudge Graham.
Chocolate Peanut Butter.
Chocolate Caramel Cluster.

Hard to go wrong with any of the above four. They're all likewise delicious!


A FLAVOR I "LIKE" BUT DON'T (YET) "LOVE":

Surprisingly, the "Chocolate Mint" bar didn't quite fire my rockets as I'd expected it to do. I normally love anything "chocolate mint"--from candy bars to cookies to ice cream--but somehow this particular Zone Perfect bar affects me as being "good" but not downright "great." Maybe if I try it repeatedly it might eventually grow on me....

ONE FLAVOR I FRANKLY COULD DO WITHOUT:

The "Lemon Yogurt" bar, to my palate, seems to suffer much like countless other processed "lemon-flavor" food products:the "lemon" just tastes too darned "artificial".


So, there you have it, my personal "Zone bar" faves. I'm sure my ranking won't duplicate yours, but, hey, "c'est la vie"! In any case, do consider one of these "nutrition" bars the next time you're craving an old-fashioned "candy" bar (or bakery treat); not only are these bars (relatively) "healthier", but also they taste, if anything, even better than many traditional candy bars!

great for those watching their weight/counting calories
These bars are awesome. I had seen them in stores, but became hooked when a coworker told me she'd been eating them as meal-replacement bars and they helped her lose/maintain weight. Many days, I will have one as my lunch, and they really aren't bad! I must admit that I balked at the calorie count (about 200) when I first came across them, but if you have one as a meal, you're ok. They are full of vitamins and minerals, made with soy (good for you) and they have 80% of the DV of chromium, which is supposed to be good for helping shed those unwanted pounds (I believe it works!). My personal favorite flavors are strawberry yogurt, double chocolate and chocolate caramel cluster, but a lot of the other flavors are really good too. I buy these in bulk, they are so good! You have to try them!

Lemon Yogurt - yummm
I eat a lot of protein bars, well a lot of the balanced nutrition bars, meaning I don't eat things like Cliff or Luna bars because they have too much sugar. That being said, the Lemon Yogurt Zone Perfect bar is probably the best tasting bar of all the low sugar choices. Give it a try, you'll like it.

These bars taste like candy
I have 4 sisters. They all decided to go on a diet and they started buying these zone bars. One night i was looking for a snack and saw "Chocolate Peanutbutter". In short, i probably have one a day, just because they taste good. If you like peanut butter you will love these. Sometimes i would have 2 or 3 in a row.

Great Tasting Low-Carb Snack With No Sugar Alcohol!
Since switching to a low-carb diet, one of the challenges that I encountered (as I am sure many others have also experienced) is finding good-tasting low-carb snacks that aren't sweetened with sugar alcohols (maltitol, sorbitol, mannitol, isomalt, etc.).Sugar alcohols do have carbs (about 1/2 to 3/4 the calories of processed sugar), but are absorbed by the body more slowly and incompletely. As a result (unless you are fortunate to have a very tolerant metabolism), they can generate a lot of unpleasant side effects including bloating, gas and diarrhea. Some food manufacturers even omit them from the total carb count on product nutrient labels. Consequently, I altogether avoid products that contain sugar alcohols.

What initially attracted to the Atkins Advantage bars is that they are sweetened with sucralose instead of sugar alcohols and they taste rather good.I have not yet had an opportunity to taste all of the varieties, but the chocolate peanut butter bar is my personal favorite.(Each chocolate peanut butter bar has a thin layer of chocolate surrounding a peanut butter flavored center.)At only 2 net carbs per bar, they are an extremely healthy snack that won't adversely affect the low-carb lifestyle.The bars taste great and one bar will satisfy my hunger for a few hours.The bars are not overly sweet (they may not be sweet enough for some), but eating them causes no adverse side effects like foods containing sugar alcohols.

If you buy the Atkins Advantage bars individually, they can be rather pricey, so the best way to buy them is in bulk.Overall, for great taste, no sugar alcohols and helping me lose the unwanted pounds, I rate the Atkins Advantage bars with 5 out of 5 stars and highly recommend them to anyone who is on a low-carb diet.

My favorite "traditional" low carb bar
This bar, as you can see from other reviews, is not for everyone.After having tried a ton of bars (all different brands), I keep coming back to this one.It is quite filling, with a dense peanut-butter-like filling.The outside is a thin layer of low carb chocolate.Depending on the freshness of the bars, the inside may be a bit dry (so, it is good with a cup of green tea).

It is not super sweet like some of the other bars, so if you're just starting Atkins, you may not appreciate it.

For a quick snack/meal on the go, this is probably the best you can get on Atkins (aside from whole foods).

These bars taste really bad compared to Walker Diet bars
I was very unhappy with the taste of these bars.Walkerdiet.com has low carb bars that taste far superior and have a better nutritional profile.Futher, the Atkins bars have hydrolyzed collagen, basically ground up dead animal parts in them.

Atkins Advantage Bars
I've tried them all and this one is the best tasting. Real food is best on Atkins, but we don't always have time for it. This is a delicious substitute.

Decent, healthy, but a bit dry and chewy
The Pros:This bar has a healthy amount of fiber and vitamins, and truly is low in carbs.It is readily available in discount-sized boxes at Amazon, as well as in discount department stores and warehouse clubs.

The Cons:Unlike it's much prettier and tastier cousin, the chocolate peanut butter bar, the chocolate fudge bar is dry and chewy.It goes down all right with coffee, but has that "stick to your ribs" texture to it.

Bottom-line:I buy this one from time to time because Atkins seems to make them available to the warehouse clubs much more often that the better tasting alternatives.If you have a choice, go for the Peanut Butter & Chocolate, or the S'mores. ... Read more

Like a PayDay Candy Bar ... Only MUCH Better!!
Sweet and chewy and salty ... like a PayDay ... only with healthy, organic ingredients, more good stuff and less bad stuff, and not as many calories. My new favorite "candy bar."

The only good energy bar
This is the only energy bar I've ever tried (I've tried plenty) that I don't have to be utterly bonking to ingest. It's tasty without being overly sweet. Clif bars, power bars, luna's are all way too sweet, but the honey roasted peanut mojo's are great.

I love these bars
I thinkn most of the other energy & snack bars are too sweet.They all taste like candy. I was wanting a snack bar that could be enjoyable but not feel like you're eating candy.Don't get me wrong, I like candy sometimes, but I don't like sweet all the time.However, I don't always want just salty either, like chips.Mojo offers a great & tasty balance of the too flavors, while remaining a healthier option than most snack brands.They avoid refined sugars, sticking to natural sweeteners & ingredients.They also have a decent serving of protein & less sugar carbs than other energy snack bars.I really like the Mixed Nut MOjo bars.I am hoping they get the Curry nut & Cajun peanut in stock. Love those too. Mmm yummy.I have a hard time finding Mojo bars in certain places. I am glad Amazon has a few options.

Awesome snack!Perfect sweet salty mix.
If you are a fan of the sweet/salty thing, then this is for you!The sweet is not very sweet (it's just honey and some organic syrups I guess) but the salty - from the peanuts and pretzels - is great.This is a great filling snack and cuts a few calories (and a lot of sweetness) out of the usual Clif Bar or Balance Bar.

dangerously delicious
I bought these to help me diet. I eat one Clif bar for bkfst and one for lunch, which helps me control portions. I tried these because of the extra portion, but they failed me because the silky chocolate covering, carmel-like top and overall crunchiness were too good and I ended up eating 2 of them, every time. I'm glad I finished the box and can go back to regular Clif bars, which, though great, are not lip-smacking enough to make me stray from my portion control plan.

Very tasty for a high protein bar
Like most Clif Bar products (Luna etc)these are very tasty. Normally the higher protein bars taste like chalk and chemicals. These are truly more candybar like in taste.. very impressive for a healthy protein fix.Peanut Butter is my fav flavor but the Chocolate is good as well.

Cheap Sugar & Palm Kernal Oil: Not a Health Bar
This is pretty much a candy bar in healthy packaging. Check out the incredients: High Fructose Corn Syrup is the first ingredient and Palm Kernal Oil follows close behind.

Go for the Clif Bar. It actually has 70% organic ingredients.

These are great. I have eaten them for several years. Sometimes for a quick breakfast or for a snack in between meals. Now I am trying to lose a few pounds and I find them to be a great snack to have when you want something a little sweet. They really curb your appetite. They are good. The honey yogurt is my all time favorite!

The first time I tried a bar I found that it tasted like a chalky, dry peanut butter cup. They kind of grew on me after that but the recommended glass of water is mandatory! Calorie and fat wise they are too high for me to eat regularly. They also have no fiber at all. Compared to other similar bars, they aren't as tasty as some and really stick in your throat. If you're a major peanut butter fan you might like them.

The taste of this product was a little better than other Balance Bars but there's still kind of a ""chemical"" aftertaste and I'd prefer more of a crunchy bar than the texture of these. But if you need a quick snack this isn't bad -- especially for those on the go.

Praise God for Zyflamend!
I have chronic tendonitis in my right arm, due to extensive typing and handwriting (secretarial work!). Zyflamend has made a tremendous difference in my life. At one point, I was considering early medical retirement, but I don't have to do that now. In order to strengthen my tendons, etc., I also take Glucosamend. I praise God for providing this supplement to mankind!

Warning for sensitive people
I thought that Zyflamend would be my answer to what I have inherited from my mother,the beginning stages of rheumatoid arthritis. Was told that there were no side effects but that wasn't my experience. I took only 1 capsule as directed with meals in the afternoon the first day. After midnight awoke to dizziness and nausea. Thinking that it was something I ate I tried to ignore it,(it did eventually pass)and I took another capsule at lunchtime the next day. The next morning at 2:00 am just as before, I had every symptom of a heart attack. Racing heart, pain in neck and arm and was so dizzy and nauseous that I couldn't move. It was a very unnerving experience but it also felt like a much more exaggerated version of the night before. That afternoon of course I took nothing and that evening and the next day was fine except tired from lack of sleep. I can't say that I can isolate what is in this that would do that but I am sensitive to medication, meaning, I don't need a heavy dose of anything to feel results. If you are like me or perhaps prone to motion sickness or have a sensitive stomach or MVP I would not recommend this product. I am very disappointed that it didn't work for me as I've heard such good results. Thought you sensitive people out there should know.

Relief with Zyflamend
Have used this product with very good results. Think that reducing inflammation is the key. Reduces aches to almost nil.Still have stiffness and soreness in lower hips but this product difinitely helps me live with it. Gave some to friend and she swears by it to.My body feels much better this then when not using it. Have stopped, to see if it really was this product and started again soon after with same results.Am 55 and this helps me. ... Read more

One of the best energy bars on the market!
I love these bars.They are the perfect pick-me-up for a late night class I have at the uni (I tend to fall asleep during this class and eating one gives me instant energy).Eating them also encourages me to drink a 16.9 oz bottle of water because of the rich chocolate flavor (I hate drinking water, so this is a added bonus).

About the Expiration date issue:
I've ordered these bars on 3 different occasions on amazon.com and I have never gotten a package of expired bars (On my mid Feb 2005 order, the exp date is September 24, 2005).Not too bad.

Better Than A Candy Bar!
I have been purchasing this Balance Bar for months and it has helped me not only curve my appetite for candybars but it also has provided me tons of energy for working out!It also is great for a midmorning or midafternoon snack at work to keep me away from junk food!If you have not tryed these bars recently get a box, you will not regret it.

Best value for price
In my opinion these are the best value edible protein bars you can get. They have 15g of protein each. Detour and U-turn bars (30g protein each) taste good also but cost almost 3 times as much for a box of only 12. I've ordered these bars several times and have never checked the expiration date. They all tasted fine to me when I ate them though.

Best By Date
Be careful when u order these.I ordered these bars a couple of months ago and when I received them, I noticed that the Best By date was less then a month away.I've had "expired" bars before and trust me, they're quite nasty.I wrote to Amazon and they took care of my refund immediately.At the time, they didn't have any replacement boxes to send.

The best tasting protein bar on the market

Great Bar!
This snack bar tastes great and is reasonably sized.It gives me something to snack on when I need to take the edge off hunger.If you have ever had Girl Scout cookies, it kind of tastes like a Grasshopper cookie....Great for a chocoholic!

Tastes like a candy bar
These taste just like a "mint chocolate chip ice cream" flavored candy bar.They're very sweet, but not overloaded with sugar like a real candy bar.Plus you get all those vitamins and minerals.

Their closest cousin is a Dips bar, with chewy stuff in the middle and a chocolate coating.

My only criticism is that they're pretty small.

I purchased 3 of these prior to a 5 day cruise.Was I thrilled when the first night we hit rough seas and I was able to put one on my 10 year old child. He woke up real queasy and I thought we were in for a tough day.However, as soon as we put the watch on turned only to the lowest setting, all his queasiness disappeared and we were off to breakfast. Great Product - it Actually Works
I am a breast cancer survivor who was looking into natural products to take safely while undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatment. I found this recommended on Dr Weil's site as well and decided to give it a try. It is amazing. I have had so much more energy since taking the product. I feel like the fatigue that chemo was causing is so much less now and I recover faster than without it. I would recommend it to everyone. I intend to keep taking this after my adjuvent treatments are over!

New Chapter Host Defence worked for me

I first read about Host Defense in Dr. Andrew Weil's health newsletters. The doctor, who is a Harvard graduate and author of several health-oriented books that have been on the NY Times bestseller list, explained that many types of mushrooms have remarkable immune-enhancing properties and therefore, he highly recommended that they be added to the diet - either eaten fresh or in capsule form, as in Host Defense. The price certainly was reasonable enough. Well, 8 months have passed since my mom's upsetting diagnosis and she began taking the Host Defense capsules. Yesterday, she mowed her lawn and then spent the evening bowling on her bowling league. Tomorrow, she is off on a bus trip with her seniors group. She says she has more energy now than she's ever had in her life. People keep telling her how great she looks.She hasn't taken anything other than the Host Defense, not even aspirin, and she swears it is the reason for her current state of good health. Don't knock it until you try it.
I have to admit that a concoction with a mushroom on the box gave me pause. But over the years I've used a variety of herbal products that purport to enhance the immune system. Many worked for a while, then seemed to stop helping. I usually get 2-3 upper respiratory infections ("colds") a year.
